About Lakeside Memory Care

eroes Work Here, the new book by Lucinda M. “Cindy” Baier, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brookdale Senior Living, is available now.

In Heroes Work Here, Cindy shares leadership insights and a behind-the-scenes look at how she and her team navigated the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19. Heroes Work Here recounts the speed at which Brookdale acted, and how Cindy and her team worked tirelessly to help protect tens of thousands of residents and associates.

Throughout this time, few leaders were watched as closely as Cindy. As the CEO of America’s largest senior living company, her decisions helped steer an entire industry through some of its most tumultuous years. All healthcare workers felt the strain of the pandemic, but those serving our nation’s seniors faced additional challenges – and their efforts helped save lives. For Cindy, every choice mattered, and now she is telling the story of how she and her team overcame the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

All net profits from sales of Heroes Work Here, which is available on Kindle and Amazon.com, will go to Brookdale’s Associate Compassion Fund. The fund provides financial assistance to eligible Brookdale associates who are dealing with a catastrophe or personal crisis outside of their control.

My wife was a resident of Brookdale-Lakeside memory Care center in 2025. I do not have the words to fully express the gratitude for the care she was given at this facility. The staff from the front office was fantastic. When we put in the application for her residency I felt we were a part of the family at Brookdale-Lakeside not just a customer. Throughout her stay that feeling never waivered. My wife called her attendants another family and looked forward to them doing their job. When her health necessitated extra care because she was bedridden the attendants did so with speed and dispatch and continued until her passing. She knew the names of her attendants. I wish I knew the names as I would like to thank them individually. They made the darkest day of my life a little easier with their compassion and caring. The facility was clean and well organized and I never had a problem with her room as far as maintenance was concerned. It was bright and cheery and she said she was glad she was here for treatment. If you are looking for a facility for your loved one I would seriously consider Lakeside.

This place and the people are fantastic. The entire staff operate with compassion, kindness and integrity. I moved my dad here after 2.5 years at another facility with a big fancy lobby. But I am here to say that the Lakeside staff make the facility a warm and comforting home. They are amazing at every department—from administration to the clinical to the kitchen—all were great. Even when I had to call the finance person, they were kind and helpful. I have had the unfortunate need to review and experience a lot of memory care places in the Twin Cities and this is 100% the best!

(Note: my previous review was removed for unknown reasons so I am submitting again). My mother was here for less than a year before I moved her to a different facility. Brookdale promised me that I would be the daughter again (and that they would take care of her). This never happened. Cleaning of her room rarely occurred! My mother's room had ants on numerous occasions. Her toilet overflowed on an occasion (without them telling me until I arrived). When I entered her room, there was waste material on her bathroom floor that had also spread to the carpet area. UNACCEPTABLE! The head nurse has no business being in charge of care. The first time that I was there with my mom to make sure she took a bath, the head nurse got my mom into the bathtub but couldn't get the door to close. She called for maintenance while my mom sat NAKED in the tub. She didn't even think to provide my mom with a towel or robe to cover her up. (of course I did!!). I would definitely stay away from this facility! I am giving it 2 stars because the Activities Director is fantastic!!

I don’t have enough words to express my gratitude and love for each and every staff member at this facility. My dad recently passed after being a resident here for three years, and during those three years he has been taken care of in an exceptionally gracious way. Over the years visiting him I have gotten to know the staff very well, and know they take their jobs very seriously. Not only were they loving and caring to my father, they are to each and every resident there. I always felt so welcomed every time I visited, and loved that they almost always had some activity going on. When it came to my dad’s final days, Brookdale went infinitely above and beyond what I would have ever expected; making sure my dad was comfortable and loved. They created the best environment for my dad and for my sisters to all be together and constantly made sure we were ok. These caretakers will always be very special to me, and I feel so blessed to have had them around during one of the worst times of my life. I could go on and on forever. I truly cannot ever thank this facility enough.

Becky was exceptionally helpful assisting me in navigating a move to MN for my parents. It's so obvious that she genuinely cares about our precious elders. It didn't work out for my parents to move in here due to some unforseen challenges from their home state, but I wouldn't hesitate to have them at Brookdale if it were possible. There's so much to like about this facility and the high standards for the staff. You can feel the warmth, the pride, and the love when you walk in. The residents are celebrated. Whatever past problems were, I think Becky has done a phenomenal job making it better, and I am sorry my parents don't get to go here.
