It has been almost a 10-year journey with my mom at Brookdale. I cannot say enough good things about all of the people that have helped her. Has it been perfect? No. But it's been 95% perfect. You have to have realistic expectations. She started with independent living and after a surgery had to go to assisted living. Then she went back to independent living and then in her later years back to assisted living and ultimately to memory care. All along the journey the staff has been amazing. They're truly caring and tried to make everything work for the resident from a comfort and dignity perspective as well as financial perspective. I am constantly amazed and in awe of the staff. They definitely have a calling and ministry to help our aging population. I'm so glad that we chose Brookdale. They have been strong supporters for my mom and myself and have made the journey significantly more joyous for my mom and her quality of life.

Level of care does NOT match the promise made. After 2 on site visits and multiple conversations with the marketing rep, prior to making the hard decision of placing our dad in memory care, we were highly disappointed during his stay at Brookdale Pearland. Our dad definitely was not treated according to the expectations they make you believe, "with dignity and respect". It is understood that it takes time for the staff to get acquainted with individual residents but from day one we noticed a huge lack of communication between management/ supervisors and care assistants, as well as with care assistants rotating shifts. Replies mentioning lack of familiarity with his basic toileting needs or abilities were common. Statements such as, "I don't know how he did last shift, I wasn't here", even though we were told care assistants are supposed to review chart information and verbally report during shift change. We often noticed dad was not groomed or changed, and the excuse was that he refused. They claim to specialize in Alzheimer's care, how is that acceptable? During the first week, dad fell off his bed on a Friday eve after dinner. We only found out after calling Saturday late morning to check on how the evening had gone. We was told "oh he fell" but they couldn't give any details, then seconds later, the story changed, "no, he didn't fall, he just was sitting up in bed". It took several hours and countless phone calls to get to the right person who could explain what had happened. During those conversations, we was told that the evening assistants are "too busy" to check on him on a regular basis because they have an entire floor to take care of, but twice during evening visits care assistants were seen on their phones or watching TV. The next week, our mom went one day to visit and dad didn't look too well, he was sad, not eating etc. The next day she returned and she found him totally ungroomed, with the same clothes he had on the day before, wet diaper, soiled fingernails and bleeding from an elbow (still have no idea what happened). Mom was in tears and that Monday we decided he was going to end up deteriorating at Brookdale so we decided would take him out the following weekend and do the best we could to manage him at home. We only made it two more days as he fell again the next day, so on Wednesday afternoon we took him out.

My mother spent the final year of her life here, after she could no longer live independently. The staff is just the best. They gave her the best care, and I was grateful she was in such good hands.

Brookdale is a wonderful place for my Mom and their primary goal is to provide quality care to her, to love her, and to meet all of her needs.
