If you are considering CIEL Senior Living of Olney for your loved one, please do your research and visit more than once before making a decision. Point blank: if you truly love and care about your loved one, I would not recommend placing them here.
CIEL took over this facility in April 2026, and since then there have been serious concerns regarding the condition of the building, staffing, activities, food, and overall resident experience.
There have been multiple power outages, elevators being out of service for extended periods, significant AC issues, and approximately a week without hot water. Residents have repeatedly complained about being hot in their rooms. There are also ongoing concerns about pests, including roaches and spiders. There are visible urine stains throughout parts of the building, and the smell on some floors can be extremely unpleasant.
Families have repeatedly raised concerns with management and been given assurances that problems would be addressed, only to return and find that little has changed. There seems to be a significant disconnect between what families are told and what they actually experience.
Staffing is another major concern. Many experienced employees left after CIEL took over, and turnover has continued. Staff hours have also been reduced for budget reasons. The facility can become extremely stretched when it comes to having enough staff available to adequately assist residents.
There is currently no Executive Director in place, and much of the management is being handled remotely by individuals based out of state who are only physically present approximately every other week. Much of the communication happens through email, and there can be a lack of clarity about who is actually responsible for resolving problems.
Activities have declined significantly since the transition from Brookdale. There used to be regular singers, musicians, fitness professionals, and other performers providing stimulation and entertainment. Now, residents can frequently be found in their rooms, sitting in front of the TV, or outside of the facility because there simply aren't enough meaningful activities available.
Food variety has also been disappointing. Meals frequently consist of fish fillets, pasta, or pork, with mashed potatoes appearing occasionally. For what families are paying for senior living, I would expect much more variety and quality.
The biggest issue is the difference between the polished image presented to prospective families and the reality after residents move in. Families deserve to know what their loved ones will actually experience day to day, not just what they see during a tour.
Please do your homework before choosing this facility. Talk to current residents and families. Ask about staffing, maintenance, activities, food, and how complaints are handled. There are other options, and I strongly recommend exploring them before making this decision.
Senior living should provide safety, dignity, engagement, and quality of life. Based on what I have seen, I would choose another facility for my loved one.

I appreciate the level of security and attention when you first walk in. The sitting area is adequate to welcome family or have the resident sit while waiting for family to arrive. The lighting was just right.

I accompanied a friend whose mother is a resident. It was a very pleasant experience to see how well she was taken care of. The staff were very professional and caring. I could see and feel that she was in good hands with the staff at Ciel Olney. My friend was also happy and comfortable with the care provided to her mom. Great job to the Ciel Olney team! I would certainly recommend Ciel Olney to family and friends. Thank you for all that you do!
