Looks are deceiving- this is a honest review not just someone who visited and saw a nice facility. If you are considering Bowman Place for a loved one with dementia, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.

Our experience with the Memory Care unit was deeply disappointing and ultimately led us to move our loved one. We experienced repeated failures in communication, inconsistent care, poor hygiene, inadequate hydration, and concerns with overnight monitoring. Significant incidents were not always reported to our family, and we often discovered problems ourselves.

What was most alarming was the staff’s apparent lack of knowledge of dementia care. We repeatedly observed communication techniques and responses that escalated behaviors instead of reducing them. Rather than recognizing behaviors as symptoms of dementia, staff often treated them as intentional actions, resulting in interactions that were ineffective and distressing.

When we raised concerns, leadership was dismissive instead of working collaboratively to improve care. Memory care requires specialized dementia knowledge, compassion, and strong communication with families. Based on our experience, Bowman Place did not provide the level of care our loved one needed, and we cannot recommend it to other families. No matter how nice a place looks on the outside, my family members care is our priority. After 6 months we had to move to a place that prioritizes care over aesthetics.

This is a memory care review, most reviews are for their assisted living only….My family’s experience with Bowman Place Memory Care raised serious concerns about resident care, staff training, and professionalism. We observed unprofessional interactions with residents including yelling at memory care residents and inappropriate interactions for vulnerable persons, inconsistent communication with families, and weekend and night time resident monitoring/ hygiene checks are non existent. (Put to bed at 7 and not checked again until day shift the next morning, resident has been urine soaked so long the clothes had re-dried). Due to the frequency and seriousness of these concerns I want To share my experience with the next family. If you advocate for your family member and the treatment of your loved one you will be targeted by staff and management. I have proof of everything in this review this is a warning for any families that they should carefully evaluate staffing (1 nurse to cover whole building on nights/ weekends), dementia-care training (ripping pants down from behind patient while in vulnerable position; that’s assault of a vulnerable person), and adherence to regulatory compliance before choosing this facility (fluids only available at meal time, residents sitting in bodily fluids for extended periods, UTI rates on the unit, redirection training, the list goes on and on.)

Bowman Place is an excellent facility with a caring staff and great programs. They are taking very good care of my stepmom, and are providing her with the memory care that she needs. The food is excellent, and the staff are very responsive to your concerns.

A gem of a community nestled in the beautiful north woods of New Hampshire. Quintessential New England at its finest. This is where Louisa May Alcott and Henry David Thoreau would have retired, given the chance. Robed in its thick Autumn brocade, you can almost hear the fife and drums in the distance. Gorgeous community staffed by beautiful, caring souls.
