Beehive Petal Mississippi: Be extremely cautious: I do not recommend the Beehive. My 2nd cousin spent his last days there. He was a most brilliant writer. His only request was to be able to communicate with his friends and family with internet access. That never happened, even after my failed request and after we added a Wi-Fi extender. He fell that October and died a day later, just a day away from my mother’s 85 birthday. Although my mother was 85 at the time, during his stay at The Beehive she was able to help with furnishings, snacks, pick him up to get out and about. She and my cousin had a bond for 80 years. Meanwhile my mother took an interest in other residents of the Beehive. She takes pride in gifting for birthdays and holidays. When my Cousin passed just days of her birthday, she was distraught. While my mother was grieving she was ask to remove her cousins personal belongs. I later found out that that there was not much to move. The manager Judy Franklin had taken the microwave that my mother purchased. I don’t know what other items were removed. My cousins death was unexpected. Although he was aged, no one expected his sudden passing, RIP. Fast forward, Judy Franklin became annoyed with my mother, maybe because she mention the belongs that walked off. My mother visited the ladies and ask their birthdays to make sure they all had a special day. Judy Franklin said that was unacceptable that she was violating HIPPA policies. I am pretty sure at 86, my mother did not know anything about HIPPA. And wasn’t asking for more than the day, making sure everyone was recognized and celebrated. Judy Franklin called my mother into her office as though she were a child telling her she was no longer welcomed, to leave and never return unless it was to deliver something to the residents. That was okay. However recently my mother received a call thinking it was a friend that resided there. She returned. Judy Franklin went to the police and pressed charges against my 86 year old mother. The agony and mental stress lasted months. I arrived with my mother on the long awaited court date as she waited to speak to the judge. We were told Judy Franklin would now drop the charges. So, my mother never got to tell her side of the story. Judy Franklin got the microwave and no telling what other items my mother had purchased. That’s hardly the point. The Beehive along with Judy Franklin filed charges against a 86 year old lady but apparently didn’t even have a case or were they too embarrassed that their employees were taking personal belongs from residents? My mother probably doesn’t care. I do! It’s NOT okay. You DO NOT approach a person that’s in shock and grieving and ask for anything. If they aren’t paying you enough to purchase your own household furnishings then find another job! Judy Franklin made a comment that my mother was forgetful. So, you take something knowing or thinking the person may not remember? Surprise Judy Franklin, my mother’s memory is better than most 60 year olds. Shame on The Beehive for condoning these actions and this behavior. Our elderly should never be treated in this manner. I suggest Positive Physical Approach training, Age-u-cate training. Instead of hiring family members that spend time working out their family problems on company time that you hire trained staff that understand the needs and concerns of the elderly. The City of Petal actually had a meeting regarding making Petal a dementia friendly city. I do not recall any Beehive staff making an effort to enhance their knowledge. DO BETTER!
