It has become all too easy to find things about which to be critical in healthcare, especially in long-term and rehabilitative support. This is why, when a facility demonstrates that it operates “above and beyond” like Avantara Arrowhead in Rapid City, South Dakota, it’s important to acknowledge the people who work together to put this center in a class by itself.
When you visit the facility, it’s clear that the building is clean and well-maintained, and the property presents attractively (thanks to Maintenance Director Josh,) with none of the less-than-adequate lighting, lingering odors, or institutional appearance sometimes associated with nursing homes. The residents themselves are always out and about; the dining room is a hub of activity with many options, from Becky’s posted calendar of interesting and varied activities to self-directed pursuits such as card games, movies, coloring, and crafts. The meals are well-presented and smell great (and the residents report they taste great, too;) it’s obvious that Sandy (who has worked at the center for many years,) and her staff take pride in offering their residents a menu that isn’t bland and uninspired. Kaylee manages the therapy department from an area that is large, bright, and filled with equipment for strengthening and conditioning, as well as therapists with great attitudes, an important consideration when choosing a center for rehabilitation.
Sharon is the administrator who oversees the operations of the center, prioritizing customer service with a hands-on attitude and personal touch; Charlotte is the director of nursing whose professionalism and clinical knowledge ensure that all care needs (from diabetes management to wound healing to antibiotic therapy,) are addressed proficiently and promptly (with the assistance and expertise of nurse managers Kassee and Cassie, who oversee the professional, caring nurses, medication techs, and certified nurses’ aides); Morgan is the social services director whose love and compassion for the residents is genuine, and not “just a job;” Chassidy runs the business office with credible knowledge of financials, and Heather coordinates all of the appointments while serving as the van driver and companion who manages to get everyone where they need to be. There is an onsite beauty salon (run by Dena,) so that everyone is well-groomed (men and women alike.) Nichole (human resources) and Angel (medical records and central supply) are just a few more of the multiple team members who work together to ensure that the center is more than just a facility—it’s truly a home.
There are always many choices in long-term and/or rehabilitative centers, which is why there are many aspects to consider when planning for yourself or your loved ones. Avantara Arrowhead isn’t just a facility; it’s a community of people who care, and their pride and commitment show in everything they do.
