When one of your loved has become is need of a nursing or rehabilitations facility it is nice to know that you don’t have far to travel to find great care, experience and dedication. We couldn’t be happier with every aspect of the services provided. One bad side of Autumn lake. Institutional food.

My experience with Autumn Lake was not a good one. My husband who has Alzheimer's was accepted for respite care for 5 days. My family was originally very excited to be able to leave our loved one in a "safe" place where he would be well cared for while his care givers take a much needed break. From the moment we walked in the door I was apprehensive about leaving him. The nurses at the respite department were completely unprepared and even said they had no record of him scheduled to be there. Everything was handled by the hospice company that helps care for him so I knew that all paperwork was sent well ahead of time. My son checked on him the first night only to find him very anxious and unsure of everything because no one paid any particular attention to his needs all day. I had to explain to the nurse that he just needs direction and he will do everything with a little help including using the bathroom. She asked me upon arrival "what's he have?" I began explaining his condition and his needs which aren't that horrible, just a little guidance. No paperwork was filled out by me to have for the nurses as to what his daily routine is. The list they had for medications was not complete and I had to revise it only after I asked to see it or he would not have been given the correct dosages of medications. By the 3rd day I had sent his private caregiver in to check on him. He was on his bed at 11:00 am soaked in urine and feces with no one around. The care giver stripped his bed, gave him a shower and then told the nurses at The desk what she had found. They thanked her for taking care of him because they said they were short staffed. By Sunday afternoon my son , who was furious by this time, walked in the front door went to his father's room and packed him up and walked out the front door of the facility. When he got home home he noticed an ankle tracker still on my husband. I was hours away. When I finally got home that evening I was horrified at the condition i found my husband in. No one called from Autumn Lake to tell me he was removed by someone other than me a day early. No one seemed to be too alarmed that a patient was out of the facility with an ankle bracelet on. Needless to say I called them the next day to complain. I was connected with a supervisor and someone else. What I got was alot of lip service and a promises they they would call me back after they had a meeting about it. It's been almost 3 weeks and I have not heard from anyone.They are taking no accountability at all for this mess. The hospice agency that I am working with needs to step in as far as I'm concerned and demand this gets changed or stop sending their patients to that facility. They are not prepared to provide human respite services for anyone. This is a total disgrace in my opinion and I will not stop until something is done to change things. I will be seeking legal advice about what to do about this situation moving forward. I want to take advantage of the respite services my husband is entitled to and know he is well cared for in my absence . I would not trust anyone to be cared for in a humane manner at this place. This was anything but a relaxing break for me as his caregiver. I also see the bad reviews that were sent in from my children have been removed. I will be sure that word gets out about the conditions for respite over at Autumn Lake whether they remove bad reviews or not. Something needs to change in this system and I will be happy to get the ball rolling with or without their cooperation.

We all know how we feel about Nursing Homes/Rehab facilities but Autumn Lake @ Chesapeake Woods possesses something above the rest. From the time you walk in, it smells very clean. Trust me, for my mom I was using a fine tooth comb but not one speck of dirt was to be seen. And the best thing is the staff! Everyone, everyday for her entire stay was eager to please. You asked for something and you were not waiting 30 mins to an hour for it. They were back in mere minutes and pleasant as could be! I really can't say enough about the nurses and med assistants there. Mom wanted to be sure to give HUGE praise to the Chef there. The food looked appealing and tasted delicious!! If you went hungry there, it's your own fault. The physical therapy staff was kind, patient, and understanding of some of moms underlying difficulties as a 90 yr old can be but they worked right thru it. They turned her around 180 degrees. I was amazed at her progress in 30 days. It was above her usual baseline. I hate to forget anyone there but from the time you enter the building to the time you leave it was just nice to go home feeling that mom was being cared for. I also can't thank Steve Gowe enough either. He quickly found m0m a bed within his facility and didn't hide behind a desk. He frequently was seen walking the halls and greeting residents as he saw them. It is evident that he's a kind hearted person. Thank every one of the employees at A.L @ Chesapeake Woods. You all can be proud of the work and service you give to your clients there. I will sing your praises to everyone I see. Respectfully, Mary Spurry

Dear Team at Chesapeake Woods, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my sincere gratitude and admiration for the remarkable care and support you provided to my mother during her stay with you. When she arrived, she was barely able to walk and showed little motivation. Thanks to your incredible efforts, we were able to move her back into her Assisted Living yesterday, as she regained both her physical abilities and her motivation. Your staff's dedication, thoroughness, and genuine care have truly made all the difference in her recovery. From the moment of intake to her discharge, every aspect was handled beautifully and professionally. Having experienced other nursing and rehab facilities, I can confidently say that Chesapeake Woods has provided us with the best experience by far. I couldn’t be happier with everything they did for my husband. The staff were nothing short of being patient with him. He was a handful the whole time he was there. Since he’s been home these last 2 weeks I can see how well they did with him considering how he was when he entered the facility. They worked with him everyday plus his room was always clean and he made sure they did with keeping himself, bathroom and bedroom clean. His social worker Robin Meekins and the staff were always pleasant and so helpful. I was so pleased with the whole place and I highly recommend it to everyone😊
