If I could leave less than 1 star I would. Absolutely do not place your loved one here. 1. Communication: NONE. Each Executive Director either resigned or were let go. Regional Ops Directors are not approachable or accessible either by voice mail messages, emails and texts. Wellness Director resigned and was walked out that day. No one to communicate with regarding loved one's care plan. 2. Shortage of staff in EVERY department including CNA's and Caregivers. Agency staff were brought in and many noted that they did not have access to care plans and were advised to "do the best they can". My mother was scheduled, per her care plan, for showers on Wednesday's and Saturdays at around 3. I would say in the 6 1/2 months she lived there she may have had 10 showers that someone actually came in her apartment on their own and "watched" her shower. The remaining times I had to have her press her pendant and await someone to respond to request her shower. Most every time we were met with "we are short-staffed" so not sure we can get your shower in today. I paid out of pocket a few times to have some give her a shower. Her care plan noted she was to be assisted in the shower with bathing and washing her hair. Never happened. Staff would sit on the closet toilet and "watch" her shower. Fecal matter was present on the shower seat. Never offered her deodorant, lotion or q-tips as noted in care plan. Came in once and she was sitting on her walker with a towel over her, they just left her alone. Thank goodness we came at that time. Her pendant was hanging up outside the restroom. 3. Call response time. Upon her arrival call times were about 5-10 minutes. Shortly thereafter the call times would range anywhere from 20 - to an hour. 4. My mother fell in her apartment on July 13th. She called me at 5:45pm to advise she was going to bed and headed to her restroom. At 6:40 I received a call from Carestaff that my mother had fell. After my mother was transported to the hospital and I spoke to Cardiologist, I notified the then Regional Exectutive Director of what transpired and that my mother would not be returning. NO ONE from Astoria called me to inquire what transpired or offer their well wishes. Sadly my mother ended up on Hospice and transitioned to her Heavenly Home a few days later. I notified Astoria and again , no one offered their condolences. I asked the Regional Director of Ops to advise what the call response time was at the time my mother fell and pressed her pendant and if the fall was reported to the state since she broke her elbow and heel. NO response other than "can we set up a time to meet or call you"? I was not in a position to engage with them at this time and again sent an email requesting information. NO response other than can we set up a time to talk. Please, read all the reviews. Do your due diligence and think long and hard before placing your loved one or yourself here. Clearly senior communities will have turnover, but when every department head is let go or resigns, that's a major red flag. Promises are made and never kept. They hold town hall meetings addressing concerns from residents, but nothing changes.

I would absolutely not want my loved-one here unless they were completely mobile and independent. And even at that, the place smelled like urine and staff turnover was TERRIBLE. Classic case of over-promising and under-delivering. My father was missing meals and bath times because the staff often forgot about him--we went in and had meetings with management in person to discuss our concerns--they always made a game plan and promises to do better, but nothing ever changed in the long run. Sometimes my dad spent the night in his chair because no one came to help him in bed. Calls to staff frequently went unanswered (or they took forever to respond), leaving him completely alone and helpless. If we took my dad out and brought him back after-hours, we were left waiting in the lobby for someone to unlock the door and let him in for up to an hour at times despite ringing the buzzer non-stop and calling on the phone. Each incident was clearly documented and addressed with management, yet the incidents continued. And this is the treatment he received when they knew we were upset, watching, and had people going every day to check on him--God help the people that had no loved ones to visit and check in on them regularly. I suspect those poor folks were horribly neglected, at best. There were a few staff members who genuinely cared about my father and to whom we are forever grateful, but they couldn't be there 24/7 and were clearly overworked and overwhelmed. I wish my Dad hadn't spent the last months of his life there and I feel the poor care he received led to his rapid decline. I can't in good conscience recommend this place. Go somewhere else.

I feel like there needs to be improvement in giving information about living at Astoria. A handbook would be most helpful with a map of the building, where do you go for fire alarms or tornados , what time are meals served, the charge for delivered meals if you’re not sick, just to name a few. I’ve had to ask other residents for all of this information Cindy, my housekeeper has been a good source of information. I appreciate that. I’ve been here a month and I still haven’t had a bathing aid until Thursday of last week. Peter said he was my caregiver and would be assisting me. I’m not comfortable with a man for this job and told him so. I know it’s not Peter’s job to get this worked out. Who’s is it? I hope my input will be helpful. Thank you, Marnie Mason

UPDATE: they have lost another ED. She lasted about a month ……🙄 UPDATE: they have removed ANOTHER ED as of last week!!!🙄. AND of course they ignore any of my contacting them(this is the way they handle things with family, residents and healthcare personnel that residents have, they count on you giving up. My daughter asked for my medication log while I was there from August 2023 to October 2025. Why would they not provide those?? Something to hide maybe??? Do NOT put your loved one here!!!! Their care is subpar and their turnover from the ED down to caregivers is so bad!! I lived here for 2 years and they had 5 ED’s, 2 nurses and several agency nurses and so so many caregivers/agency caregivers because they can’t keep staff because management treats them horribly or management hires whomever walks through the door because they need caregivers in those 2 years. They charge for services that you do not receive and I am disabled and needed these services. I expect them to reimburse me for the personal expenses I incurred. Their menus are the same every week, they just change the days and times (lunch/dinner) so it looks different. DON’T let them fool you!!! A facility may look modern and clean, but that is just a facade here, behind the facade is very shameful care and compassion. UPDATE: they have removed ANOTHER ED as of last week!!!🙄. I cannot say enough great things about Astoria Senior Living! The care and attention they provide to residents is truly above and beyond anything we could have imagined. The staff is incredibly hands-on, compassionate, and professional, always going the extra mile to make sure everything runs smoothly. Jaime, who works at the front desk, is absolutely wonderful—she’s bubbly, sweet, and always willing to help, often sharing little behind-the-scenes details that make me feel even more connected 😊 Caleigh, the head of the activities department, is an absolute gem. She’s fun, full of energy, and always makes my mom laugh. Every time I visit during activities, my mom tells me how much she loves spending time with Caleigh and how they have such a great time together. Overall, our experience at Astoria has been nothing short of excellent, and I am so grateful for the genuine care and warmth they provide.
