What Families Think

Families describe AseraCare's hospice nurses, aides, and social workers as compassionate and skilled during a difficult time, with many reviewers naming specific staff who made a real difference. However, one detailed account describes a serious breakdown in intake communication and equipment coordination that caused significant stress before care even began.

The Good

  • Nurses and aides praised by name as compassionate
  • Emotional and spiritual support for patients and families
  • Bereavement counseling continues for up to a year
  • Team ministers to caregivers' needs, not just patients'

The Bad

  • One report of equipment (DME) never being ordered as promised
  • One report of feeling pressured and misled about provider choice at intake
  • One reviewer said follow-up calls gave 'the run around' with no resolution

Not off to a great start. We basically felt pressured when a rep showed up to our loved ones hospital room and implied that she was our hospice provider, which confused us because we were told that we were going to be presented with, and go over options. There seems to be a relationship with AseraCare and some of the staff at the hospital, as no other providers were presented or present. Against our better judgment, and to get our loved one home, we decided that we would go with AserCare. Fast forward to the day the DME is to arrive, and the equipment was no call no show. I called the same representative we met with, in a panic and asked for a call because our loved one was scheduled to come home the next day. That did not happen. I called again the next day, got the run around, calls from many people, all without confirming when the equipment would be arriving. After several calls, the DME company called and told me that AseraCare had never placed the order. Of course they insist they did. Whether a glitch, or neglegence, and before care even started, I can't in good faith ever recommended AsseraCare. It's great that everyone is sorry, but a hospice provider you'd think they'd be more diligent supporting people who are dealing with end of life care for a loved one. This level of stress should be the last thing a HOSPICE company puts someone through. Including misrepresenting themselves from the get go in the hospital room. At this point we fell stuck and can only hope it gets better from here. BTW, I still do not have all the answers as to whether the correct equipment is on order, but at least we finally have an estimate of when it will arrive. Apologies, no accountability, and promises are not the way to deal with failure. Clear communication, accountability, and resolution are how you you earn back trust, and who should you trust more than a hospice provider? Update: The nurses were great, but the not enough to change my overall rating.

They took great care of my dad 2 years ago. They we're all so kind and offered so much. Lynn was his nurse and always had a joke for him. That's why I called them when my mother needed to come home on hospice care. Alyssa was my mother's nurse. So kind and caring. It takes a special person to care for the dying on a daily basis.

I would like to extend a profound thank you to Aseracare, hospice nurse Kaitlan and Director of Operations , Lynn Criggley for the exceptional care extended to my mother to ease her condition during the transition process. It is great to have these caregivers who possess this extraordinary compassion and our family is grateful for their presence at such a difficult time. While the time spent caring for my mom was rather brief, we appreciate their care and skill during this critical time.

My mother and I recently decided that it was time for hospice for her. Our initial visit was such a life giving experience, as Lynn shared compassionately and kindly what my mother would have available to her as she journeys toward bringing her life to a closure. The admitting nurse Debbie was so informative and caring, and took time to listen, learn, and inform us. Since then, my mother gets the best care from kind and caring professionals. Not only are her emotional, spiritual, and physical needs met, this team ministers to my needs as well. I am so glad we chose AseraCare! My mother loves her nurses Debbie and Heather, and her Aid Jen is fabulous! Lindsey is a great social worker and we look forward to meeting Chaplain Kelley soon. Thanks to AseraCare, we are experiencing this journey with such beauty and grace.
