A friend is a resident there and is happy with his room, even though shared with another person. Staff were helpful. Facility is not new, and has some older building maintenance issues (bathroom faucet drips, toilet frame has some coating peeling). No urine or feces odors noted. It has a clinical layout like my mother-in-law's rehab to hospice level care facility in Texas. There's a mulberry tree outside the facility that was bearing ripe fruit and a tall glass-walled lit-up case inside with various cacti. There are larger areas for a wide range of residents group sizes to gather. In short, lots to like, but I'd prefer to be living with my kids and grandkids, which is how it is for me right now :-)

HORRIBLE! There's some horror stories out there, and then there's this place. It looks like a Stephen King novel, and quite frankly, it is. There's a guy name SOY., who is deplorable beyond reason. He will bill you with strange semi threatening language and then when you call soy boy back he doesn't answer. The place is disgusting. It's straight out of the 70s. Avoid like the plague.

They degrade the ward's. They make grown men who can take a shower by themselves be watched by a "stand in" woman nurse completely humiliating their standards of modesty. The rooms are small cramped with 3 beds with no room to walk between small pots and a night stand with. Curtains between these narrow private spaces for each ward. There is no privacy when you visit the ward. One ward will turn his TV loud so the other ward cannot hear his own TV. They should each have earphones if there is more than one TV per room. The dresser and night stand were broken. I had to demand they were replaced only to be replaced by other old furniture with drawers that dint glued open easily. The staf stole snacks out of the wards nightstand and the nurse was seen eatinf the ward's snacks. The ward's are supposed to be able to receive snacks from his family members or visitors. They refused to allow us to bring home our family member for special days or holidays and the administrator said that the guardian won't allowed it. It is not up the the guardian of his bank account and placement in a nursing home. The nursing home itself should allow other family members to allow a ward for home visits. The guardian is vengeful and thinks she can control every movement that the ward does. That is CONTROL, not giving the ward the right to visit with his sister or his adult son. ALDEN TERRACE OF MCHENRY is the sickest, raunchist looking nursing home I ever saw in my life violating human rights of the ward.
