How families pay for skilled nursing in Mississippi

Most Mississippi families pay for assisted living, memory care and independent living out of their own pockets, at least at first. This usually means monthly income such as Social Security or a pension, combined with personal savings, and often the proceeds from selling a home. Families who planned ahead sometimes have long-term care insurance that can be tapped to cover part of the monthly cost, and veterans or their surviving spouses may qualify for VA Aid and Attendance, a benefit that helps offset the cost of care for those who meet the service and need requirements.
