Our Mom fell and broke her leg and was at Woodside for rehab. She was classed clearly as a fall risk by the facility. They put one fall alarm on her bed, but nothing on the furniture in the room. So, she fell again. Woodside called to tell us that she was going by ambulance to the ER...and they never spoke to us about it again, except to tell us how much it would cost to hold her room. No apology. No asking about how she was doing. Nothing.

The second surgery...because she was allowed to fall at Woodside...destroyed her. Her mind was never the same. The anesthesiologist told us that happens with seniors and general anesthetic. Mom went back to Woodside for rehab, which we regret.

She is a diabetic. Who at that point had dementia as a result of the surgery nesseciated after the second fall. Woodside allowed her to fill out her own menu when we weren't there, which she clearly couldn't do. She would order chocolate milk, cake, etc which she would normally NEVER do. And even though they KNEW she is a diabetic, they brought sugar filled foods to her. Her blood sugar was sky high all the time. That can cause a stroke.

When I attempted to speak to the staff and the "social worker" about it, they didn't give a damn. I was told dismissively "She has rights. If she wants chocolate milk and cake, we give it to her". I VERY firmly reminded them that she is 87 AND HAS DIABETES !!!

We were foolish to believe that Woodside is a whole health facility. They most definitely are NOT. They didn't care that her blood sugar was through the roof. They ONLY cared about her leg.

We got her out of there. We preferred to spend $16k a month for home health care than to have her in this place another day.

She was good after the first fall. Healing. The second fall at Woodside? It cost her everything. Her home (she had to go into assisted living), her freedom, her independence. But most importantly, the second fall cost her family that she now has a hard time remembering.
