Washington State Walla Walla Veterans Home

The Walla Walla Veterans Home is an 80-bed nursing care facility in Walla Walla, Washington, co-located on the campus of the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center. The home provides 24-hour nursing care, medical care, and pharmacy services to eligible veterans and their families.

The facility was designed using a small house model with 8 individual homes, each featuring an open kitchen, dining, and living area. All residents have a private room with a private bathroom. One dedicated 10-bed house provides nursing home level memory care in a secured, home-like environment for veterans with specialized needs.

To be eligible for admission, applicants must have served in any branch of the United States Armed Forces and be eligible for federal Department of Veterans Affairs monetary benefits. The home also serves Gold Star Parents who lost a child while serving in the armed forces, and accepts veterans separated with less than honorable characterizations of service due solely to sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

The facility accepts Medicare, Medicaid, third-party insurance, and private pay. Veterans rated 70%-100% service connected disabled, or whose service connected disability is the reason nursing care is needed, may have their nursing home care paid by the Federal VA.

Located in Walla Walla, the home primarily serves veterans from the 10 counties nearest to the city, where approximately 50,000 veterans reside, including about 20,000 age 65 or older. The facility was constructed with support from the City of Walla Walla, the Walla Walla Veterans Task Force, and the local veterans community, with 65% of construction costs funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
