What Families Think

Warren Barr Gold Coast is a Chicago skilled nursing and rehab facility where reviews are sharply split: many families and patients praise individual nurses, CNAs, and therapists for warmth and dedication, while a substantial number of other reviewers describe serious lapses in basic care such as missed feedings, bedsores, falls, and unanswered call buttons. The facility offers a range of specialized clinical programs (dialysis, transplant recovery, cardiac, pulmonary, wound care) alongside standard rehab services, but consistency of day-to-day nursing care appears to vary significantly by floor, shift, and staffing levels.

 • Wide range of specialized clinical programs (dialysis, cardiac, transplant, wound care)
 • On-site physical, occupational, and speech therapy

The Bad

 • Multiple reports of severe understaffing affecting patient care
 • Several accounts of neglect: missed meals, dehydration, unattended bedsores
 • Repeated complaints of slow or ignored call-button response times
 • Multiple reports of poor communication and unresponsive administration
 • Yelp rating (2.3) is notably lower than Google rating (3.5)

Have you ever heard of a patient beating up a CNA, I have.👍. All I can say i have the best NURSES AND CNAS IN WARREN BAE. I HAVE KATE AND MANNY, FOR MY CNAS I HAVE KATRINA THE SUPERVISOR, MAY, MIA, AND DANIELLE. THIS CREW DOESN'T GET THE CREDIT FOR DOING A FANTASTIC JOB . 🥰👍🚆. Well here we are again July 10th. At ten after ten the CNA ELANOR CAME IN AND INTRODUCED HER SELF. WHEN SHE WAS I ASKED FOR SOME ICE.WELL AT 10:50 AFTER THE CALL BUTTON WAS ON FOR 20 MINUTES. NURSE VINCENT DIDN'T EVEN COME TO CHECK IF THERE WAS ANY THING WRONG. THE CALL BUTTON IS USE LESS. I SURE HOPE I WASNT DYING. SURE WISH SOMEONE WOULD TALK TO THEM ABOUT PATIENT CARE 🤣🤣🤣. I HAVE TO SAY MYA AND MANY ARE FANTASTIC NURSES.. THEY BOTH ARE ON TOP OF EVERYTHING. I HAVE TO GIVE BOTH OF THEM 10 IN NURSING
👍👍👍. Here we are 9:30 am and just got my insulin that I should have at 8am and my medicine. Nurse didn't even get all of my medicine, I had to tell her what medicine i needed, inhalers, protein. I would think a nurse should know what medicine 💊. Maybe I should be a nurse. Today is Thursday am. Terrible patient care.👎👎👎 July 16. My family tried calling here and nobody ever answered. They started calling at 7:30 and the receptionist never answered. It's now 8:05 and still never answered the calls. Finally I had to scream and yell before someone came in. The Receptionist should be replaced. If I was having a major problem. I think the administrator KATE SHOULD HAVE A TALK WITH HER. SUNDAY NIGHT.JULY 19.Thank to my CNA GLORY. SHE IS FANTASTIC. VERY POLITE, AND ON TOP ON EVERYTHING. ONCE AND AWHILE IT WOULD BE NICE TO SAY GOOD JOB FROM ADMINISTRATOR. July 20 2026, is it policy that you don't see your social worker, I HAVENT SEEN ELLIE IN OVER 2 MONTHS. SHE WONT CALL MY WIFE AND SHE HASNT TO THIS DAY. I NEVER GETS ANY UPDATES ON ANYTHING. MY WIFE GOT HOLD OF THE NURSING HOME ASSOCIATION AND PUT A REPORT ABOUT ELLIE NOT DOING PATIENCE CARE. HAVE KATE TALK WITH ELLIE. SHES A TERRIBLE SOCIAL WORKER.🤣🤣👎👎😡😡

Lied to me about of moving to another. Told me maintenance had to fix something so I couldn't be in my room. We'll the next day there was a India couple in the room. We'll the administrator KATE LIED TO ME. THE SOCIAL WORKER HAS LIED ALSO. Well early this morning (2:30am) we had a thunderstorm. We'll electricity went out. I have a LVD to keep me alive and have to change from power to battery, We'll of course no body on this shift had any idea how to do it. No lights so it was hard to change it over. I used my phone flashlight to do it myself. Then they called the CPS FIREFIGHTERS. THANK GOD I WAS . POINT IS NURSES DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WHERE THERE IS A EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!.

Every year or so, my review gets deleted. So every year or so, I write a new review. I will not be silenced.

My mother, an amazing woman who treated everyone she met with kindness and respect, was sent to Warren Barr Gold Coast during the pandemic.

She had spent the past few years battling cancer and had gone into Northwestern with a perforated bowel (one of her tumors). She was a little weak on her feet and wanted to go to a rehab to get her strength back before going home.

I was my mother’s medical proxy, I called daily for updates and wanted to ask HER how she was feeling. Starting on day 3, her room phone was disconnected. Every time I called, they said she was in physical therapy, going for a walk, eating, bathing, etc.

I got calls from her doctors at northwestern- she missed 2 appointments, Warren Barr said she went to one and their doctor saw her in place of the other (important to note- they said their doctor saw her on day 6)

On day 12, we had a care team meeting over the phone. The nurse said my mother had a “high fever” of 94 degrees. She said she was “hyperglycemic, which means low blood sugar”. Those words. I wish I was joking. Then I spoke to 2 people from physical therapy, both gave the same update- they hadn’t seen her since day 3 because she wasn’t progressing and was PARALYZED from the neck down. This was the first we were being told of this.

After hearing that, I asked for her to be sent to the emergency room, the nurse told me “she’s not stable enough for transfer, we can’t transfer until we get blood work back for her UTI” - they didn’t feel the need to tell me, her medical proxy, that she had a UTI during the care team meeting.

That was it. The meeting was supposed to include a social worker and the doctor- neither were present.

It took 137 phone calls to every person we could think of contacting at Warren Barr to finally speak to their doctor. One of my messages got passed along to him and he called me back, from his personal cell phone, at 3am.

He explained that he hadn’t seen her since her first day there and that, while he did not have work the next day, he would go check on her, because the nursing staff had been telling him she wasn’t in her room or that she was sleeping and didn’t want to be disturbed when he tried to see her.

About half of those 137 phone calls were demanding to speak to my mother. When I finally got a hold of a social worker that brought a phone into her room, she was sobbing and screaming in pain. “I can’t wait for this life to be over” and screaming “get me out of here. Please. Get me out”

On day 14, the update was still waiting on blood work, still refusing to let her go to the ER. Day 15, her insurance stopped paying them, her blood work wasn’t back yet, but they finally agreed to release her to the ER. Because we refused to pay them.

Northwestern informed me that her blood sugar was dangerously low. From what they could tell, she hadn’t been fed at all while at Warren Barr. She was severely dehydrated. She hadn’t been given any of her medications other than an antibiotic- inconsistently. She was in the same clothes she’d been transferred to Warren Barr in- but soiled, she hadn’t been cleaned, she hadn’t been cared for at all. Her entire back, her legs, completely covered in bed sores- infected bed sores thanks to being left laying in her own feces and urine soaked clothes for 2 entire weeks.

I called Warren Barr and asked why she hadn’t been cared for and the nurse, the same nurse that told me my mother was improving daily until the care team meeting on day 12, said that she tried to help my mother roll over on day 2, she cried out in pain saying “please stop you’re hurting me”, so she refused to “waste [her] time on someone that rude”.

It’s been 5 years and her screams and cries at Warren Barr are the most prominent memories I have of her, they echo in my mind constantly. I’ve been diagnosed with PTSD from the time spent fighting to get her out of there so she could get proper care.
