I have only been to this nursing home on two occasions. It seems to be a well run nursing home & a very busy environment, particularly on the first floor & a few floors that I have visited. Two suggestions; Provide more activities for residents; too many were observed simply sitting in the hallways and doing nothing. There was no stimulation to speak of. Secondly, reprogram the elevators to be far more efficient.

My mother was admitted to Upper Eastside rehab over 5 days ago to recover from a stroke. So far the nurses and nurse assistants are responsive to her needs, and they are constantly busy. My mom gets soft chewable food as she is required to have, and she seems to like it. I see other patients eating without complaints. They have different therapists visiting and a separate floor for therapy. There's also a floor for activities and entertainment. There's decent coffee in the lobby with limited food. And there's plenty of places to eat in the neighborhood.

My husband 84 years of age, was recently at UES Rehab & Nursing following knee replacement surgery. PT & OT were excellent as supervised by Raj Karasetty and executed by Busch for PT and Evan for OT. Mohammad for PT on weekends was terrific as well. The nursing team inclusive of all assistants was terrific - so many names to remember but special thanks to LaVerne, Alfred, Rupa, Sara (incorrect spelling), Arroyo, Melissa and Jallo. We are grateful to Oxana head of the nursing office and also to Linda Bonsu head of Social Work who were always available to discuss any concerns. If any negatives could be cited, it is that there 1)should be more nurses and related assistants hired or assigned to the 11th floor, particularly on weekends. . . everyone working is “stretched” but does their best. And 2)The food, to quote other patients, is “inedible.” Therefore many families bring in food or order delivery. Any facility like this has positive and negatives. However in short, if the priority for any patient is Rehab and Nursing as was ours, this institution is a solid choice.

My mother stayed in this facility for 3 months. The facility is a mixed bag as it has full strengths and weakness. The physical and occupational therapy department is definitely the biggest strength. The therapists are dedicated and knowledgeable. They operate on a conveyor model, meaning that they work with more than one person at a time and it can be chaotic. But they will go an extra mile for you if you’re motivated and working hard on your recovery. The quality of care provided by nurses and nursing aides varies, especially on weekends when they’re often shortstaffed. Some are hard-working and caring, while the others are not so. My mother who was bedridden often had to wait long to get nursing attention, or was told that her assigned aid is on break and there is no one else. The biggest weakness is the discharge process. The social worker we had appeared to have no experience in discharging someone to their home. My mother needed services and equipment delivered to her home, and some of it was ordered late or not at all. The coordination of who does what during discharge is not optimal. I advise those with high needs to request an experienced social worker (if they have such) and agree on all details in advance to minimize frustration later on, when you can no longer reach out to them over missing things.

My grandmother had a wonderful stay at Upper East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation. The staff truly care about their residents and treated her with kindness, patience, and respect at all times. The nursing and rehabilitation teams were excellent, and her progress exceeded our expectations. Communication with our family was clear and reassuring, and the facility was always clean and welcoming. They are also in the process of new renovations and building a new café, which shows their commitment to continuously improving the environment for residents and families. Most importantly, my grandmother felt safe, supported, and cared for like family. We are very grateful to the entire team and highly recommend this facility.
