About Universal Health Recovery Center

Universal Health Recovery Center is a 16-bed assisted living facility in Chester, Pennsylvania, providing addiction recovery and mental health treatment with an emphasis on DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) programming.

Families and residents consistently praise the DBT groups and several named staff members, particularly counselors and therapists like Jackie, John, Kat, Barry, and Nellie, for their genuine care, attentiveness, and skill in supporting recovery. Multiple reviewers noted that the grievance process worked fairly and that staff responded constructively to concerns. However, experiences vary sharply: some residents found the broader facility environment chaotic, reporting poor communication between staff and patients, disrespectful treatment from kitchen and nursing personnel, and weak aftercare coordination. One family wrote, "The staff was so helpful and loving and caring and personable." Others described tension in the building and concerns that clinical decisions centered on revenue rather than individual needs. Additional complaints included facility maintenance issues, security lapses with personal belongings, and inadequate preparation for discharge.

With a 3.3 out of 5 rating across 172 Google reviews, Universal Health Recovery Center shows a mixed track record: strong clinical programming and individual staff advocacy appear genuine, but consistency in facility operations, staff conduct, and discharge support remains a significant concern for many residents and families.

This place was awful. The aftercare was basically non-existent, I had to approach them myself to ask what was going on with just 1 week until my discharge. They sent me to a disgusting shelter in Philadelphia where everyone was getting high. They had completely forgotten about me. There were fights and bullying...it was ridiculous really. OH, and I had bed bugs in my room... I was waking up with bites all over me and when I asked to see the doctor I was told that I would see her at her earliest convenience..... which was never... bathrooms are disgusting...and you're not allowed to have bars of soap... they make you use some crap off out of a wall mounted liquid dispenser... basically the place is filthy and the staff is incompetent. And the pictures that they show on this website are completely misleading...we don't use any of those spaces...our lounges and rooms are run-down and dirty. Do yourself a favor and find someplace else.

Well I'm still clean and that's because I took what Keystone had to offer me and applied it to life. Their wasn't anything new that I learned, what I did was used the tools that were there all along. But talking to people like Jackie J, Jackie R, Mr. George made me understand that I'm the most important in my life. I'm grateful to have met those people. STILL GOING STRONG!!

I absolutely hate it it was probably one of the worst experiences I've had but I do believe that is served its main purpose which is equipping me with tools to maintain a healthy sober life the staff treated me horribly specifically aftercare mainly aftercare but everything else was good great. And I will never be returning anytime soon if I do it will be the very last option on Earth it will have to be the last rehab in the world for me to ever attend that facility again
