I had to pick a star rating or I wouldn’t have.

My significant other had to be placed in an assisted living facility. She was originally at Sunflower Ridge Assisted Living and really liked it there. The only thing that bothered her was her short-term memory loss.

After about seven months, we were contacted by The Beaumont Assisted Living and Memory Care. They told us they could help improve her short-term memory. In July, Sunflower Ridge informed me that Beaumont would be quite a bit more expensive. Her son paid part, and I paid part.

In September, someone from Beaumont called and said I owed for July, August, and September. I explained that she was only there for 5 or 6 days in July, and he agreed to prorate that.

In late October, her heart stopped and she was admitted to the ICU. She passed away on November 9th. Despite this, they billed me for both November and December.

When I told them I wasn’t happy about being billed, I was told it was a mistake by the finance office and that it would be corrected. I kept checking my Visa for a refund, but nothing ever showed up. After two months passed, I realized they likely knew the credit card company wouldn’t be able to dispute it anymore.

I followed up again, and the finance office told me I had to pay for November because they were “holding her room,” even though she was in the ICU and clearly not returning. When I questioned the December charge, he initially said I owed it, then put me on hold and came back admitting I did not.

He took my name and mailing address and said they would send a refund. It is now May 13th, and I have not received any money back.

On top of everything, they took away the only pleasure she had left—her cigarettes. If they had told her upfront that she wouldn’t be allowed to smoke, she never would have agreed to go there. She was extremely upset.

If you are considering placing a loved one at The Beaumont Assisted Living and Memory Care in Bountiful, Utah, I would strongly encourage you to reconsider. They are significantly more expensive than Sunflower Ridge, they overbill, and in my experience, they have not followed through on correcting those charges.
