I DO recommend The Plaza at Edgemere to future patients.

In early 2026, our elderly father required at least a month and a half of skilled nursing. He had been to Edgemere before for a short stay but this time, we knew his health was much more at risk.

Our first week back there was REALLY ROUGH. The call button was never shown to him. His iPad was constantly moved out of his reach. The food is delivered cold. I don't know if it was us getting use to their procedures or they getting use to what our father needed but we almost moved him out to another skilled nursing facility because of our mis-match or understanding each other. We wrote complaints to Kristi, the Social Services Director, and spoke with Director of the Skill Nursing wing; things changed almost overnight! (Well, the food still came cold.)

From that point on, we couldn't have been happier with Cooper&Precious, Activity Coordinators, going out of their way to make sure our father was included in social activities. All Physical Therapy coordinators were great with our father and Nurse Rebecca, our father's primary hall nurse, was always so patient with him and us, the family! Thank you Nurse Rebecca!

Our biggest continuing Edgemere problem was communicating with the on staff doctors. Edgemere does not allow families to call the doctors directly. Instead, Edgemere expects you to ask the nursing staff to reach out to the doctors. Problem is, the daytime nursing staff is VERY BUSY and we don't know if they followed through. Assuming they did forward our request, there is no timeline set for the doctor to respond -- IF they responded at all. Over time, we learned to capture doctor's phone numbers but even then, Edgemere has a trick phone system to reduce our ability to timely reach the doctors. In a way, I can understand but in another way, this created a constant communication problem for the family of an Edgemere patient.

Second problem was getting a hold of the hall nurse. During the daytime, it was easier for me to drive 20 minutes to approach the hall nurse in person. During nighttime, the on-call night nurse would answer about 60% of the time but they were not nearly as well trained as the daytime staff -- which I guess can be understandable.

I know I mentioned a lot of ways Edgemere can improve but still, I would recommend The Plaze at Edgemere to someone needing skilled nursing. I would send our father back to Edgemere ESPECIALLY now that I know how their system works and what to expect. ;-)

As the Wheelchair Guyy, I get to visit a lot of senior communities, and Edgemere definitely stands out. The community is beautiful, welcoming, and truly feels like home. Dena is one of the best liaisons I’ve had the pleasure of working with. She genuinely cares about her residents, is always professional, and goes the extra mile to make sure they’re taken care of. Great people make great communities, and Edgemere has both.
