Located on Boston's South Shore at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac surrounded by woods, the community combines evidence-based cognitive therapy programs with personalized care designed to support residents' dignity, independence, and quality of life.

The community's signature approach centers on The Learned Environment, which integrates three learning pathways to provide genuine cognitive engagement. Programming includes art therapy where residents paint, draw, and sculpt in a failure-free environment; music activities including instrument learning and drumming circles; and language instruction in Spanish, French, Italian, and other languages. The facility features innovative technologies such as the Tovertafel light projection system, indoor and outdoor sensory gardens, and private family suites for residents and visitors.

The thoughtfully designed environment emphasizes safety and independence through careful attention to physical space, furnishings, colors, and natural light. The community is organized to provide opportunities for resident interaction, family engagement, and staff support while preserving private rooms as personal sanctuaries. Short-term respite stays are available for families needing temporary care for their loved ones.

The Cordwainer serves residents from Norwell and surrounding South Shore communities including Hingham, Weymouth, Cohasset, Duxbury, Scituate, Marshfield, and other nearby areas of Plymouth County. We were hesitant to turn to assisted living options for my dad, but when his needs became too great, we came upon The Cordwainer. There we found a lovely community solely dedicated to memory care with expert medical care, stellar programmed activities, a warm and friendly staff, and delicious food in a beautiful, light-filled facility. My dad has really taken to the place and is unquestionably benefiting from the individualized, comprehensive care and socialization he receives there. We are so relieved knowing that The Cordwainer is giving him every opportunity to thrive mentally, physically and socially!

The Cordwainer has been a gift to our mother and our family. We visited many residences for memory care and The Cordwainer was unsurpassed for cleanliness and care. Now that our mother has been there for six months, we know the real gem is the staff. The people who manage and care for the residents are truly exceptional and happy to be working there. It feels like a family. We can't recommended it enough.

The Cordwainer is a unique and wonderful place for parents with dementia. I’m so happy and relieved with the care and attention my parents receive. Cordwainer staff are so helpful and friendly that it truly feels like home for them. They also do a wonderful job of keeping me informed of my parents activities and status. I’m thrilled and amazed at the stimulating curriculum and the way my parents are kept engaged every day. They have created something really special here!

I have followed the development of The Cordwainer from the idea and drawing board to the opening of the facility and - over the last 3 years - the success stories for residents and their families. It is truly a remarkable model that should be implemented in all of memory care. The team and developers are to be highly commended for their approach and dedication, and thinking outside of the box to make the lives of the residents rewarding again. What a great model

We recently moved our aunt to The Cordwainer from a nursing home out of state so she could be closer to family. At the previous community, they didn’t offer much for the residents to do, and she spent most of her days sleeping. After only a few days at The Cordwainer, we saw such a positive change—she was smiling, engaged, and excited to participate in all the wonderful activities offered each day. The staff is so kind and caring; it truly feels like she’s being taken care of by family. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to bring her here.
