Don’t ever go to this health care system. The price is insane and if you just drive down the road to Reno you pay half price. Don’t go here.

I spent 4 nights at Tahoe Forest Hospital recently after breaking my leg in 3 places during a skiing accident. From the ER, to the trauma surgeon team, and the subsequent nursing/PT/OT and other care team members… each one of them delivered a high level of care to me. They always took their time, they listened, they had not just the skill but the bedside manner… Such a rare combination! My surgeon, Dr. Dodd and his team did an incredible job with my surgery and the placement of the two titanium rods that now live in my leg. His PAs were consistent and thoughtful in their follow up. Dr. Perrins, a trauma surgeon, was a godsend. So practical but easy to talk to. Took so much fear and uncertainty out of the situation for both my husband and I. The day and night nurse and hospital staff, down to the people that serve your meals were compassionate and kind. The PTs and OTs saw me, my husband and offered real and practical help. This event was so traumatizing and difficult. I’m so thankful I was where I was. It was God’s mercy. Our family can’t say enough good things about this hospital. The people working there clearly all love what they do.

I hope you never need to be in the ER but if you do you could not ask for a better hospital. Clean. Modern. Amazing staff of doctors and nurses. Even the billing lady was great.

$1400 Robitussin DM. My wife could not sleep last December so we went to ER at Tahoe Forest. The staff was great so was the doctor we saw. We were in and hour in 30-35 minutes. The doctor gave her Robitussin DM we thought she got codeine cough syrup, not a big deal. We went home and she slept great. Three weeks later we got a bill for $1700. We live in Colorado most of the year and spend time in Truckee in the summer. TFH is out of network but the ER is our only option. The insurance company covered $300. We called TFH hospital to talk so someone if it was reasonable to charge someone $1700 for a 10 minutes with a doctor. They dropped the bill a fraction. TFH is NOT FOR PROFIT hospital that runs a healthy profit and is actively expanding its services, remodeling and updating buildings in the North Lake Tahoe Community, which is great, but at what expense to the community they "serve." This is not a complaint about care its a question their charging practices.

If there were an award for turning simple problems into disasters, this hospital would win it every year. The staff acted like professionalism was optional, and basic communication seemed completely nonexistent. Walking through the front doors was the biggest mistake I made all year. I’d trust a magic 8-ball with my health before I’d ever come back here.
