I wanted to share my experience with Suring Health and Rehabilitation center. I spent a year in this facility. There are good and bad things that happened but overall it was a good experience. I went in after having a spinal stroke and lost all function of my legs. The group of physical and occupational therapist are some of the best around! This would be the reason for the five stars. Jen and Michelle helped me achieve what I once took for granted again. No one can ever prepare you for losing your ability to stand and walk. And at 50 years old and over weight it’s even a bigger challenge. I’m a straight forward type of person and Jen really helped with that. Giving me the layout of what I need to achieve to take the next step!! I can remember when it was just pushing up from my wheelchair to achieve a small amount of light between. To standing with the help of a sit to stand machine. I never realized how many muscle groups you use just to stand up. As anything I had my set backs but with family and staff encouraging me to get back to where I needed to be was amazing. The nursing staff as good. As in any place you have great ones and horrible ones all part of the experience. The food was ok. A suggestion if you do stay here to ask to meet with the dietitian and figure out what you like and dislike. It took me awhile to do this and in the end it was much better.
There is always something to do during the day for residents, from music to games and also treat days. There is a calendar that has everything for the month on it.
One thing I will say and this would go for any home or rehabilitation center. You are your advocate. Weather for yourself or your family member you have to speak up. When you deal with 40-70 other residents that are having issues also things can get lost we are all human! Thank you to all of the nurses and Therapists that helped me while I was there!

Trust me, if you love the person you are considering sending here, DON’T DO IT. Why? Let me tell you…

1. They will not help your loved one put on shoes to do the therapy this place exists to provide. Even though the person wore shoes for EVERYTHING THEY DID THEIR ENTIRE LIVES, putting shoes on is too much to ask. Slipper socks? DO NOT PROVIDE PROPER SUPPORT TO SOMEONE WITH DIFFICULTIES WALKING. When they don’t walk because they are afraid and/or don’t have shoes, they will call it failure to thrive and attempt to provide hospice care so they can work on killing them.
2. Placing the bed lower so the client can reach the floor to stand up? Will not happen. If they decide that the client can’t do, they won’t even try, even if trying is exactly what the person needs.
3. If your family member gets cold easily, no blankets will go with sometimes to the lunch room. If your loved one has a neck brace and can’t feed themselves, sorry, there is only one lady who can help, and she’s got 4 or more other people depending on her. Your loved one will be expected, even with a neck brace, to feed themselves.
4. Cleaning? Nope. Got wet depends, if someone actually answers the buzzer and shows up to help, they WON’T. They will leave your loved one in bed, laying in piss. They won’t clean it up, them up, or do anything at all. They will go back out of the room as if they answered the call button, then just shut it off. Your loved one will be expected to wait 4 or more hours until they take a break from gossiping to help.
5. Garbage will stay in the room. They will leave piss filled spill sheets in a ped bucket on the back of the toilet, other random stuff around the room, and if garbages get emptied, no one will put bags back in the cans. Dirty dishes will remain here and there. Any clothes you bring in…will be given to other people, or just randomly disappear.
5. If your loved one was medicated for a uti that almost killed them, they will not bathroom your loved one at all during the day. If they have depends on, they are to pee in them and sit in them until one of the nurse staff decides to actually do the job that the center makes $375 a day for. if they didn’t come in with a uti, rest assured, they will be leaving with one.
6. If your loved one is scheduled to go home, they WILL use scare tactics to try to get you to keep them there, including “hospice” and insurance coverage. If that doesn’t work, they will completely stop caring for your loved one, including physical therapy, until you pick them up and take them OUT of suring rehabilitation center.

You have been warned. If you care about your loved one, run. Take no one you love to this facility! They don’t care about people.

Side note: the male nurse who was kind and actually cared, the other who was knowledgeable and attempted to make her comfortable with oxygen. Physical therapy kid, you made my mom smile, and I appreciate that. The lady who got my mom the ice cream, the lady who actually talked to and fed her, and the lady who called her in to the ER, thank you! This is NOT about you. You were kind, as we all should be. Thank you.

But don’t pat yourself on the back if you know I’m not talking about you. Realize, what you do, and how you live, says everything about who you are: cruel and self serving.

I was a resident. I was treated very poorly. Verbal abuse. And I witnessed things I never thought I would. The food was terrible not even the cat would eat it. I was yelled at made to feel like I wasn’t important or I didn’t matter. I have more mental health problems than I’ve had in years. I was harassed by an elderly Women to screamed at me went in my room and tried taking my stuff. She would corner me and yell at me and no one helped me. There was an old guy that wrote me love letters and touched my back not appropriately. It was witnessed by a CNA and she said stop but the letters still came and so did he. I was put down. Yelled at for being an advocate for the other residents. Didn’t eat. Was scared to ask for help. And no one cared. Depression set in and it’s still there. All because of this horrible place. My friend there had 3 UTIs from the CNAs putting her bladder bag above her head and not caring. I’ve been stolen from. Given wrong medications and been lied too. They messed up my insurance. Lied about my medical paperwork. And trying to ruin my life because I cared. Don’t ever allow your family to be here.

DO NOT send your loved one here! My daughter was there for 3 months to get physical therapy after an FND diagnosis and absolutely NOTHING resulted from it! They gave her more mental PTSD than anyone could ever imagine! From neglecting patients, not giving meds on time, not bathing patients or changing bedding, facility constantly smelling of urine and absolutely an over all "don't give a crap" attitude from the entire staff! CNA's Deb & Tina yell at patients & lie about everything they say they will do for them and then lie about it when confronted. And on more than one occasion purposely "messed up" my daughter's meds! Patients there where allowed to verbally abuse and threaten my daughter with little to nothing done about it, the meals served aren't even good enough for a dog. Patients urine bags are put up over thier heads causing multiple infections and ambulance calls. My daughter's physical and mental health completely DECLINED! This place needs to be shut down I along with many others WILL be making a complaint to the state!!
