When my wife had to be admitted to a facility to undergo physical therapy / rehab, I wasn't sure which facility to choose. I was given a list of facilities at the hospital and chose South Lyon Rehab because of its proximity to our home and the hospital not knowing what to expect. Thankfully, once we arrived there, it was a pleasant experience. The staff did an excellent job of getting her checked in and comfortable, evaluating her physical therapy needs, and learning about her food preferences and other needs. Nurses and staff were all courteous and did a great job of taking care of her, and some even went out of their way to check on her from time to time. The food was great and there were many activities during the day that she could attend to keep her occupied. I was really surprised that my wife liked this place so much because her mother was in and out of some other rehab facilities and had a horrible experience in all of them. All of the people here love what they do and care about the people that are here. I would have given 5 stars but some improvements could be made. The biggest problem we had in the beginning was with the call buttons. My wife had a hard time understanding how they worked when we first got there because she would press the button and then immediately deactivate the call light by pulling the button back up. If the call buttons were more like the ones in the hospital where only the nurse or aide could deactivate them it would have been easier for her to understand. Other than this small issue which we eventually overcame, this place did a wonderful job and I am glad we chose it.

Pros: personalized care, staff attention, positive and welcoming Cons: old building with normal aging issues When you walk the halls, people smile and make sure you’re attended to, the staff do rounds a lot since it’s a smaller building, The food is amazing! Lots of activities, it’s a positive home-like feel from staff who really care. It’s definitely one of the better rehab facilities in the area.

Amazing staff! Don’t judge a book by its cover - the heart and love in these workers surpassed the appearance of the building! Therapy goes above and beyond to push and encourage progress! Great communication throughout the stay. Administrator is available when necessary. Social work makes the transition home seamless and easy. You can tell staff care and want to hear if there’s any issues- they fix everything immediately. Therapy, social work and administrator will provide their personal cell numbers for 24/7 communication to guarantee you’re not left in the dark. I’d pick South Lyon every time for rehab.

I just want to say that when I first arrived at the facility, I wasn't sure if it was going to be a good fit for my mom who was needing rehab, after a lengthy hospital stay. Well, within a few hours, I knew that she was in the right place. All of the staff were so good with her, and she didn't have to wait long to have a need met, which is what you want for your 94 year old mom. Food is important to my mom, and she loved the food. It was all of a homemade type of food and every meal arrived hot and was very good. That's important when you are recovering! The first night she arrived, Nurse Jennifer was preparing to get her all checked in, and realized the time of day (late evening) and knew the kitchen would be closing soon for the day. She put everything on hold and made sure my mom had a hot dinner before moving on to getting her checked in. The physical therapy and occupational therapy was also good and they worked with my mom 5 days a week, and sometimes on the weekend too. The only thing is after PT & OT patients are returned to the room and unable to move around without help for their own safety, did I mention she is 94. I guess I would say don't judge a book by the cover, SLSCR is clean, but very dated, ( my mom said the bed was very comfortable, just old like her), and could use some upgrades, but I will take an older facility with caring staff and good food over a newer facility and staff that doesn't care for your loved ones needs. After two weeks I decided it was time to get her home, and they helped get her set up for home health care for continued rehabilitation, which went very smoothly. She is now recovering even more, but if she needs rehab or nursing care, I will definitely look at SLSCR for her needs.

My Mom came here after a week in the hospital. I chose this rehab because it got 5 stars on Medicare review and Yelp review. The main concern for me was patient/staff ratios. This is a small facility where everyone pitches in where and when needed. The staff all knew my Mom's name and cared about her. Tge food is all homemade and not from Cisco. I cannot recommend South Lyon Senior Care and Rehab more highly.
