About South Hampton Place Rehabilitation & Health Care Center

South Hampton Place Rehabilitation & Health Care Center is a skilled nursing and long-term care facility in Columbia, Missouri, licensed for 100 residents. It provides post-acute rehabilitation and ongoing care services.

Family experiences at South Hampton have been inconsistent. Some praise clinical staff—one reviewer highlighted exceptional nursing care during a burn recovery stay, noting "meals were excellent always" and staff as "well trained and helpful." However, the majority of reviews reflect systemic operational challenges. Families frequently report inadequate housekeeping, with rooms not properly cleaned or maintained, old equipment, and equipment failures. Several residents did not receive meals on multiple occasions, and laundry services resulted in missing items without resolution. Additional concerns include unresponsive staff to resident needs, communication gaps around medications, and delayed or absent medical attention.

The facility carries a 2.8 out of 5 Google rating across 67 reviews. While individual staff members, particularly nursing aides and therapists, occasionally earned high marks, the consistency and overall quality of operations appear to be areas of significant concern for families.

I would not recommend this nursing home based on my experience. I observed serious concerns regarding the quality of care, communication, and overall treatment of residents. Staff members often seemed unresponsive to residents' needs, and important concerns were not addressed in a timely manner. Families trust facilities like this to provide safe, compassionate care, and unfortunately my experience did not reflect that standard. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes meaningful improvements for the residents who depend on them.

I am giving a 1 star review because it’s required to leave a review. This place was beyond horrible. It was dirty, not run well. My family member only stayed 22 hrs because he was miserable & desires better. He never received any meds his first day & barely saw a nurse at all. Also when we asked what’s meds they were giving him the they had no idea. The only bright light in that entire building was Roselyn the social worker. She was amazing. She worked with me from Friday morning to Friday afternoon to get him out of there. We made a great team & we couldn’t have done it with out her. To management. Please do better. The entire facility needs a remodel . Your employees need retraining. It’s sad when every employee or company you talk to about your facility says the same thing when bring up the conditions. Everyone is aware, why aren’t you? This place should be shutdown until it is safe & more livable for patients.

I was a client for approximately two weeks for the treatment of second and third degree burns. South Hampton was very professional in my care. The meals were excellent always. The staff all were well trained and helpful with anything they were asked to do. I give them a Five Star Review. Thanks South Hampton for everything. Bhf

I'd give it a tip of a star if it was available. I was a patient for ten days. I had three meals that were hot and prepared accordingly to my dietary needs. The room was not even cleaned and prepared for me. However, I failed to mention that I did have Cathy the nurse and the aide went above and beyond in making my room was ok for me to get a good night's sleep. My visitors took me out or brought me meals. My mattress felt gritty, so "I" stripped my bed and discovered a disgusting filthy patch on the mattress. I used 20 disinfectant wipes to get it cleaned. I remade my own bed as the nursing staff was swamped. I had ONE shower in the ten days I was there. On that said day, the aide killed a bug in the shower room. A visitor of mine killed a cockroach in my room. SO I CANNOT and WILL NOT recommend this facility to care for pets much less another fellow human being. Before I retired, I was a Certified Nurse's Aide in N.C. as well as a housekeeper in hospitals. This is not a review from a novice...or a disgruntled family member. On the other hand, nursing staff were overwhelmed, overworked, and grossly underpaid. OT, PT, and were very nice, supportive, encouraging people. I can't say enough for that. As in any facility closed quarters, there needs to be consistent and constant sanitation, disinfecting equipment, especially post COVID days. Dietary needs to learn that a specific diet doesn't change day to day basis. I can't eat pork or beef due to allergies. NO pork, NO beef means NO beef or pork three times a day EVERY day. What food I did receive was cold. One can eat so many uncrustables. I am also diabetic. I had protein drinks and snacks in my room properly stored, covered and sealed.

The therapy staff were great to be sure but the overall care was absolutely subpar. The place was not well kept on the housekeeping end. On four different occasions I did not receive a meal. The beds/equipment are old and rickety. They say they do your laundry but you are lucky if you get them back. I asked everyday where my stuff was and still left missing five items and there is no compensation. All were labeled with my name. They say they offer transportation to appointments but will suddenly not have transportation for various reasons. Mostly the van breaking down. The nursing staff, some are nice, but others are rude, loud, they yell and curse in the hallways. I called one nurse a liar (she had just lied) so she refused to give my medications until "I calmed down and apologized". When I wouldn't apologize she wrote I refused my medication for both morning and noon because even though I was calm at the noon med pass I still wouldn't apologize. They also wouldn't give me my breakfast that day. They say they offer specialized diets they don't. You get no option for breakfast. Two options for lunch and sometimes two options for dinner but none were specific to my medically ordered diet. The Social Worker is overworked so failed to know her patient needs in regard to discharge planning etc. I think my biggest issue was the nurse refusing medication to me that I need long term to remain alive because I didn't apologize. I wasn't violent or endangering her well being. I was upset she was lying. To me that is medical neglect.
