My son’s father, my ex husband , passed away at this facility on October 16th, this year. I went to visit and could not believe my eyes. The facility was dirty, short handed, and therefore the care they gave him was inexcusable.He was not being cared for and his bedding smelled. He was agitated and in pain and the they refused or took their time to give him his as needed pain medications. And even sometimes we’re not following the dosing orders from the nurses with the hospice. If it were not for the hospice nurses his care would have been little to none.I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

Once upon a time this was a decent care facility. It seems as though that time has passed. My Uncle passed away last week at this facility and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. The facility is dirty, the staff are not as responsive as they should be. Although there are a couple of staff who do a good job, they are in the minority. My Uncle was allowed to lay in a filthy bed. He had developed a bed sore that was "supposed" to have been being taken care of, but it wasn't. He quickly progressed from having one bed sore to having several and his environment was so filthy as his skin appeared to literally rot due to lack of care which was incredibly painful for him. His pain medication was frequently not delivered as quickly as it should have been unless the hospice nurse stayed on the staff and got confrontational which, thank goodness, she did. There was NO REASON for this level of suffering to have been allowed. This place is unsanitary and the staff is marginal at best. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone you care about receiving good care. It was horrifying to watch.

We were hesitant to place my Mom here for several reasons. One being the reviews. From the moment my Mom walked through the door, they treated her like family! They loved on her, spent time visiting with her and made sure she feel special in so many ways like making her special drinks, bringing her food to her room, making sure her favorite shows were on the tv and so much more! I’m sad to say my Mom recently passed, but I know that they realized early on that she was having a heart attack and jumped into action. Her heart just gave out and it was her time to go home. I have so much respect for every single person that I met at Shawnee Care Center! If you are struggling with that difficult decision, I highly recommend you give them a try!

Horrible care and zero follow through. My mom had a surgery scheduled for today but it had to be rescheduled due to the nursing home not following pre op instructions. Now we will be in the hospital for Christmas and they could care less..they don’t check on her or turn her like they claimed they would. They don’t shower her on schedule. I change her sheets and brush her teeth cause if I don’t these things wouldn’t happen either. If you have family here I would highly suggest twice daily visits cause that’s what I do and I find issues constantly. If you have a family member you love DO NOT put them here. They just fired the director thank goodness. She told me after my moms 4 day stay in the hospital due to a SEVERE UTI due to being “extremely dirty” that since I didn’t seem happy with their care they weren’t holding my mom’s room for her return. They were literally trying to kick her out cause I had legitimate complaints. If this does not work to get their attn a BBB complaint will be my next step. They even fired the wrong girl for something and had to call her back the next day to bring her back, and right before Christmas. I only gave one star cause 0 is not an option. This place is losing my faith that there are decent people in this world.

My mom was in a different nursing home in Shawnee and they pretty much just let her lay there and die. I was finally able to get her moved to Shawnee Care Center. They have been WONDERFUL with her. I don’t think she will ever recover from the other place, BUT she is so much better taken care of here. I truly appreciate Judy Trice (DON) and everyone there. They have no idea how much they mean to me with how well they take care of her. They treat my Mom like she is their mom/grandma. I highly recommend Shawnee Care Center! If you are looking for a great place to look after your loved one there is no need to look any where else.
