Due to a fall and declining health, it was recommended that my mom enter rehab. After researching various facilities in the area, we chose Salem Hills. They were the only facility that reached out to me when my mother was hospitalized. Having visited relatives in similar facilities in the past, I have to say Salem Hills is one of the best facilities around. We were truly impressed by how kind the majority of the staff were. They were helpful and always willing to answer questions. I visited my mom daily until she was discharged to return home so I got to witness the patient’s experience firsthand. Positives: The facility is extremely clean. My mom was concerned that her clothes were missing but it was because they were being washed. They labeled everything when we arrived. I saw people cleaning throughout the times that I visited. It never smelled like a typical facility. Every day there were activities for my mom to participate in. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and watching movies. She stayed active because she had an aide who helped her get dressed and ready for the day. My mom is declining cognitively so she didn’t like losing her independence. The aides helped her and kept her safe. The OT and PT worked with my mom to build her strength so she is able to get around with a walker at home. Negatives: I’m going to miss everyone there. I’m especially going to miss the kitchen staff because they provided three delicious meals per day for my mom. She actually raved about the food. I enjoyed meeting the staff and the residents. There were some very interesting people at Salem Hills. Jennifer, the social worker, was amazing. She kept me updated and helped me throughout my mom’s stay. I truly appreciate everything they did to help my mom feel comfortable and happy while she was there. Just remember, if your loved one can’t advocate for themselves, you need to be their biggest advocate.

Both of my parents have been in this nursing home for two plus years. I live 3 hours away and get there as often as I can. I have to say, that the staff there, treat my parents like family. It gives me such peace of mind to know that they are good to them, they love them and they watch out for them. Years ago I worked in a nursing home and I used to give tours, we were not giving towards on the 3rd and 4th floors because I wouldn't have put an animal up there. So I know how they can be, and this one is top shelf, anything I call for, from the distance I am, is handled and it is just a top shelf facility. Clean, caring and just a great place to put your loved one. Shout out to Charlene and to Gladstone, two of my father's favorite people

I obsessively researched nursing home facilities in Westchester and visited Salem Hills/Waterview 3 years ago when my mother could no longer live at home. The reviews were great but I selected a different assisted living facility that LOOKED so much nicer. It WAS a beautiful facility but I ended up having to pay the monthly cost AND hire a full time private aid for my mom costing about $20K a month. Plus she wasn't healthy enough to use the beautiful facilities. A year ago, I had her transferred to Salem Hills and they took SUCH AMAZING care of her!!! The cost ended up being a few thousand dollars less than assisted living but the best part is Salem Hills STAFF!! Everyone who works there goes above and beyond for the people in their care. My family and I were brought to tears with the loving attention they gave her. Having to put a family member in any facility is a heart wrenching situation that's never a "lovely & happy" visit but our minds were put at ease getting constant updates on her health and well being. I spent a lot of time there, and while my presence was unknown, I witnessed nurses and aides treating patients with kindness, compassion and dignity. Our mother passed away a few weeks ago and they even made that process easier. We could not be happier with the facility.

I have read the Positive Reviews of the facility ! That is why I moved my Mom there at first it was as great as the Reviews Lauren was great and really had a hold on the unit . As far as smelling good I guess the person writing that review did not go to the second floor where the rug starts the smell is Horrible . I don’t think any elderly person with the fear / Anxiety of being alone should always be in her Bed away from others and Cry inconsolably and be brushed off . I have witnessed through facetime a heartbreaking evening she had They are immune to the cries and panic attacks these people have doesn’t make it right to leave someone in her bed due to her disabilities having a full anxiety attack and crying on her Birthday ! Get the proper help through psych because this isn’t normal and she is left with no voice the isolation in her room even before covid outbreak sets her off ! The answer is not she dies this when she’s upset have a plan not let her deal with it alone . Eating in bed with her head of the bed not raised was really a safety issue , I was told staff helps with feeding but that is not true Please get your act together .
