Let me start by saying I really hope more people start to question the actual "care" their senior citizen family members are getting from this type of facility. My 76 year old mother recently suffered from a stroke caused by high blood pressure. Mom was placed at Prestige for rehab purposes. The care she was given was substandard. There was only one short session a day for her physical rehab, and the cognitive tests she under went were very inadequate and completely pointless. They assumed from her lack of interest that she was unable to return home and would require 24 hour care. They assumed wrong. Mom is doing GREAT. But with 10 days of "rehab" which also included lunch meat sandwiches with potato chips and rare wardrobe changes, I opted to bring her home earlier than her original 20 day sentence. I was warned that if she relapsed in the future, I would not be able to choose their facility again, and that basically Mom was cognitively incapable of ever taking care of herself. Well.... Mom is in great shape, no thanks to Prestige, who took a week to figure out Mom has high blood pressure! If you are told your loved one failed the Montreal Cognitive Assessment test, don't just take their word for it. If you are close to your relative and know something is off, MAKE SOMEONE LISTEN. It can save their life. I had to raise my voice and insist Mom had a brain scan before the hospital took me seriously. And her brain was indeed bleeding. If you need to put a family member in a rehab center, or home, stay involved in their care. Insist they keep you updated. I asked for a list of rehab activities and a detailed description of what Mom was doing and Prestige never gave me one. I hope this review keeps at least one senior citizen from going through what Mom did. 😔
