My grandmother with stage 4 cancer was recently transferred from the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. They treated her exceptionally well, but she has been here for one day and has already been through hell. She is barely able to move from the waist down and when she was using her bedpan, she asked her nurse to help move her legs to the side. The nurse told her “I’m not going to stand here and hold your damn legs.” Another nurse made the comment about how they hate working for “stupid people.” My grandmother sat in bed for 4-5 hours and pressed the button for help. Even to the point of her screaming for it. She ended up defecating and nobody came to help her in the many hours she begged for it. We told the nurse to take good care of her and told her about this incident and she accused us of lying and starting talking about us to another coworker as soon as we started to walk away. As for the environment, the place is very sad looking. If you’re already depressed from being in a nursing home, this place will make you even sadder. There were ants crawling up and down in my grandmas room. She reported to me that all of her nurses had given her an attitude, if you have to take your loved ones to a place for rehabilitation, do not take them here.
