My mom has been a resident at Oakmont of Roseville for about 2 1/2 years. She started out on the assisted living side. About after a year. She transitioned to the Memory side. The staff always has a smile and they always refer to me by my name. Just recently they had an Easter Brunch for the residents and family members. Everything was done with thought and care. They once again did a fabulous job. The care staff even made Easter Cards for all family members. With different hand written messages in each one. Not something that they bought at CVS or off the internet. WELL DONE👍

We found Oakmont almost by accident, when my dad was Ill and we were in immediate need of somewhere safe for my mother to stay. We had looked at nearly every assisted living community between Grass Valley and Roseville when someone at the hospital recommended we look at Oakmont. We’re so glad that we did. Walking in, it felt much nicer than any of the other places we had seen. We met with Nate, who was amazing, gave us a tour, and answered all our questions. Luckily, they had a place available and we took it at once. During the transition, everybody on the staff was incredibly helpful, flexible, and friendly. When the time came to move in, they even some of my mom’s favorite foods and snacks waiting in her apartment. We are back frequently and notice every time how friendly the staff are – they seem genuinely happy to be there and caring about the residents. The live music twice a week is really cool, and the facility is always spotless. The courtyard is beautiful and quiet, and the location is super convenient. We have dined with my mother several times and the food is great, with a terrific set of options for the residents. While this wasn’t a situation we were quite prepared for, we are so happy that we found Oakmont.

We moved my mother into Oakmont of Roseville on December 1st, hoping for a safer and more supportive environment closer to me. Prior to this, she had a live-in caregiver and had no history of falls and was unable to get out of bed without assistance. Initially, she was set to move into Oakmont of WestPark, but just nine days before move-in, we were told by Terry, the Executive Director, that they did not have sufficient staff to handle her level of care—despite my asking about this weeks in advance after assessments had been completed. We were redirected to Oakmont of Roseville.

From the beginning, there were red flags. Upon move-in, her medications were left on the counter and not reviewed with me. The next day, I noticed a strong urine smell, and staff mentioned a possible UTI but took no immediate action. I also discovered that her inhaler was not being administered—despite me delivering it during check-in. A med tech finally found an unlabeled inhaler and guessed it must be hers.

A UA was supposedly ordered by the concierge doctor to be done that week. But just eight days after move-in, I received a call that she had gotten out of bed, walked to the bathroom, and fallen—hitting her head. At the hospital, it was confirmed she had a UTI. The doctor’s order for a urine sample had not been fulfilled, and no one from staff or the home health agency communicated this failure to me. I would have gladly assisted, as she is much more cooperative when I’m present due to her dementia.

When she returned to Oakmont, I discovered that her medications were being administered during the day despite my instructions that they be given at night due to their sedative effects—potentially contributing to her fall. I also questioned how she was even able to get out of bed, given her prior limitations.

The very next day, I was called and told she was short of breath. When I asked how many inhaler doses were left, the number did not align with what should have been used—meaning she wasn’t getting her medication overnight. She soon became septic and was hospitalized for a week.

After discharge, I visited and found her half-dressed, soaked in urine, with her pants around her knees and shoes still on. Sadly, this wasn’t an isolated incident. Nearly every visit, I found her in wet clothing. One morning, a caregiver even asked me how to do her job.

While the state did investigate, Oakmont denied having a meeting with me and my brother in which they had previously acknowledged their mistakes. Ultimately, the facility was only cited for documentation issues, not for the broader failures in care.

We have since moved her to a board-and-care facility where she receives attentive, one-on-one care and is no longer just parked in front of a TV. The difference in quality is night and day.

I share this experience not out of anger but out of a hope to inform other families. It’s critical to advocate strongly for your loved ones and never assume that a polished exterior means adequate care behind the scenes.

My mom has been part of the Oakmont of Roseville community for almost 2 years and we can't imagine her living anywhere else. Every staff member knows her by name and has gone out of their way to attend to both her requests and needs, always with thoughtfulness, a positive attitude and a smile. From individual care to group activities and outings, Oakmont of Roseville has been a perfect fit my mom and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a community that will care for a loved one the way beloved family members should be cared for.
