They do a great job with my mother. They are attentive to her and meet all her needs. They keep me informed and well advised on what is going on with her and her health. I appreciate the care they give to her. The facility is clean and the nurses and staff are nice and friendly.

My Mother spent two and a half years in this facility. After the first six months, she began a state of decline. We expected proper care for our Mom. Instead, she received substandard care. My Mom had not had a shower or a bath in the entire time she was there. What the nursing staff insisted was a case of shingles was actually a systemic infection in her blood brought on from persistent urinary tract infections brought on by extremely substandard personal care conditions. Shortly before her death at NHC, I asked my Mom when she last had a bath or shower. She said “never”. Then, she said she “longed for a shower”. Only then, when I brought this matter to the attention of the director, he told me the facility doesn’t have a bath tub of any kind and then he ordered staff to give her a shower. Passed away no long after. And, for the last several weeks of her life, we paid cash to the facility for her to stay there. My wife wrote checks totaling over $17,000. This is what you get when good people entrust their loved one to a facility that has no checks and balances. Even my Moms hospice nurse who saw her twice weekly up until her death told me her lack of hygiene care directly attributed to her demise. I would give this facility zero stars but there’s no way to do that. Also, my Dad was a patient at NHC prior to his death. He, left unattended, and as a fall risk, fell in his room and suffered a facial injury. My advice is to seek care for your loved one elsewhere. Anywhere but NHC.

My mother suffered a stroke and was sent to NHC for rehabilitation. She was treated like royalty from every nurse, Dr., therapist and everyone she came in contact with on a daily basis. We could not be more pleased with the care she received. The care they provided made a bad situation bearable.

The staff was so good with my dad who was there to recover from stroke. They were very kind and were very helpful to accommodate our family. I can't thank them enough from the director to the entire staff thank you.

After my mom's recent shoulder surgery, my mom stayed at NHC Athens for her recovery and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff made her feel welcome and comfortable. My mom said they treated her like family. The CNAs were attentive and compassionate. The physical and occupational therapists were all professional, patient and encouraging, helping my mom make progress everyday. Thanks to the incredible team for making my mom feel safe and taken care of. Special thanks to Shirley for going above and beyond and ensuring my mom receive the best experience possible. I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a warm, professional and effective rehab facility.
