After looking at numerous nursing homes we thankfully found Mount Alverna a few years ago and are pleased with the room, food, and caring attitude overall. Being Catholic, we love the Chapel and the spiritual interaction that is available. I have found nurses and aides that are caring and listen to family input as a team approach to providing the best care for our loved one. Raj and other nurses have listened to any concerns I had and have shown compassion to my wife. Management shows care toward having good aides and staffing levels, not easy in todays environment. There are long term aides there that I hope stay for many years to come as they go above and beyond to show care and compassion to all their residents.

Our Mother has been at MAV for about 4 years now and we couldn't be happier with the facility. We are particularly grateful to all the staff on 3W for all they do. The unit manager, Raj Kaur LPN, has been extremely helpful and has always answered our questions and any concerns almost immediately. So grateful that Raj and the nurses and aids will pop in and check on our Mom throughout the day. It's difficult to have our Mom in a facility but we know she is well cared for every day. We can walk down the hallway or to other floors and we are always greeted with a smile and a hello by all the staff...from nurses to administration and all the staff. We are most grateful for Raj Kaur and all the nurses and aids on 3. Thank you for all you do.

If your loved one isn’t assertive and able to advocate for themselves, BEWARE, THEY WILL BE NEGLECTED! My mom was transported to the third floor of Mount Alverna Village for physical rehab. Supposedly, it was the “best option within the vicinity.” If this was the best, then I’d hate to see how neglectful the other options are. The first day, my mom was admitted to a room with a non-working TV. She was not provided any sort of orientation, given any information on what to expect (when are meals served, what does a typical day look like, what is the therapy schedule, etc.). When I arrived within the hour, I asked if there was some sort of orientation I should attend. I was told there was not any admittance meeting or overview. So you just admit people and give them or their family no information on what to expect?! When my mom arrived, it was lunchtime. She had not eaten anything that day and told the aid that brought her roommate a meal. Lunch was fish, which my mom does not eat, so they told her they could bring her a sandwich. It took nearly 2.5 hours to get my mom a sandwich. And that’s after I asked THREE different people and expressed my discontent. Her TV still was not fixed. Also, asked about that four different times. At this point, I am getting the impression that these people just do not care. You would think that they’d want to accommodate a new resident and make them feel comfortable and cared for, especially when their family member is present. But nope. I asked to speak with a manager, Rajwant Kaur LPN, because I am already concerned about the lack of attention. We were given the excuse, “but we’re not trying to use it as an excuse” that there was a party for the residents that day and the staff was attending that. Well, the party ended and YOU LEFT MY MOTHER IN A WET DIAPER FOR 14+ HOURS! And the neglect continued. I had my mom begin to write down how long it took for an aid to come after she pushed the button. Twenty minutes. Half an hour. Sometimes, someone would pop in only to tell her that they’d be back, only to wait another 20+ minutes. The final straw was after a night aid was nasty to my mom after she wet the bed. My mom was so scared to have another accident that she started going to the bathroom by herself because she couldn’t wait another 40 minutes for an aid to help her to the bathroom. And the manager, Rajwant Kaur LPN, still just made excuses. My mom had also asked for her ice pack but was told it was “misplaced.” Funny how it mysteriously showed up when I came to get her out of there after four days. The only saving grace is the chaplain, who was delightful.
