About Montrose Bay Health and Rehab

Montrose Bay Health and Rehab is a skilled nursing and long-term care facility in Fairhope, Alabama. The community has been operating for at least five years and serves residents requiring rehabilitation and ongoing medical care.

Family experiences at Montrose Bay are deeply divided. Some describe staff as genuinely caring and attentive, with one family noting nurses were "readily available to answer questions" during their mother's stay. However, other families report serious concerns: instances of dismissive nursing behavior, inconsistent management of medical needs (including inadequate blood sugar monitoring and insulin administration for a diabetic resident), maintenance issues like broken wheelchairs, and facility conditions described as run-down with exposed pipes and stained curtains. Communication and administrative responsiveness have also declined notably, with one long-term family reporting that reliable updates and account management support that once existed have largely stopped.

Montrose Bay carries a 2.4 out of 5 Google rating based on 28 reviews, reflecting the sharp polarization in family accounts. While some highlight genuine compassion from individual staff members, the pattern of structural issues—physical plant conditions, medication management inconsistencies, and administrative instability—suggests meaningful quality gaps.

I just spent the entire the holiday season as a hip implant patient. They were warm and kind. Many patients are rude and completely unaware and dismissive of stressful working conditions where patients in pain tend to get very emotional with severity of the pain and act out. My hat is off to the very kind and sympathetic nursing and maintenance staff at Montrose Bay.

My Mother has had a great experience here for the past five years. Until 2021 I was informed often of all current status of her condition and Weekly email updates on Covid status. Since first of July I’ve tried to get available monies from her Patient Account. These funds Can be used for personal needs of the client. The newest Administrator left after 4 months, Business Manager has left, replacement is juggling working at two facilities. Both the Office and Nursing Staffs have changed multiple times. New employees cannot be blamed for the confusion at the location. Residents are NO longer getting thorough treatment.

Mom moved from Montrose Bay Rehabilitation to Montrose Bay permanent residency. In the month that she has been there, a nurse has responded to her call button with “what do you want now” another time when asked to help with the bathroom was told “you can do it yourself” and when I tried talking to a nurse on the phone, was told I’m too busy, I have other people to take care of. My mom has congenital heart issues and is on oxygen. When she asks for assistance getting dressed, is told she can do it herself. I have met some of the staff and they are very compassionate, cheerful and helpful. However, the actions of a couple of staff members who should not be in this field are a danger to the residents who need the care. Montrose Bay is impossible to reach by phone. Rarely is a phone answered by a person. It is automated and when you try to be connected to any other department, you are again put through to a voicemail that only results in a call back - maybe once for every five times you try and never on the same day! This facility is very understaffed. Thank you to the staff that are doing their best despite the working conditions. But for the safety of our parents in your facility, please be aware of your colleagues who do not have the same compassion and ethics that you have.

Run down and dilapidated. Overhead pipes exposed. Curtains stained. My husband’s wheelchair kept breaking down. Husband is diabetic and they weren’t testing his blood sugar, tried to get an answer as to why not and kept giving me the run around. I had to take his own testing supplies in but they still did not give him the proper amount of insulin. The majority of the staff seemed. Very nice but are stretched thin and can tend to snap at the patient. They definitely need to hire more staff. Do yourself a big favor and do not place your loved one there.

I will admit that I was hesitant about this facility. It’s not new, and it could certainly use a facelift, but what it lacked in outward appearances, it more than made up for in the caring staff. Everyone was so kind to my mom. They spoke to her respectfully and let her know that her health and well-being was their focus. Nurses were readily available to answer questions, and mom had someone in and out of her room, checking on her, regularly. I’m so glad my mom was at Montrose Rehab. Thank you, to the ENTIRE staff, for taking such good care of my mom.
