About Mission Villa

Mission Villa is an assisted living facility located in mid-town Santa Barbara, California, four blocks south of Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The community accommodates 15 seniors and was founded by Lisa, a local Santa Barbara business owner who became passionate about senior and dementia care after her mother's diagnosis with dementia in 2015.

The facility offers assisted living care with a focus on memory care and dementia support. The staff includes professionals with backgrounds in special education, aroma therapy, massage, nutrition, and healthcare management. Hospice care is available for residents nearing the end of life, with services provided by health care professionals chosen by families to address comfort and physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.

Daily programming at Mission Villa centers on what the community calls its proprietary Associative Activities Program, where the mood and interests of residents guide activity choices. The care approach emphasizes therapeutic experiences including farm-to-table meals made with whole foods, singalongs with local musicians and entertainers, thoughtful lighting, and daily interaction with family and friends. The community describes its philosophy as valuing hugs and connection alongside physical care.

The facility operates as a small, family-like setting due to its size and design. Meals feature farm-to-table preparation, and the community regularly hosts local musicians and entertainers including singers, accordion players, church choirs, and pianists to provide musical experiences for residents.

Mission Villa has been a safe and loving home for both my parents. But it has been much more than that. I have found an encouraging support network for my whole family. The friendly staff are adept at providing differentiated care. They are observant and respond quickly when help is needed. With kindness they gently assist and encourage. Visits are always welcomed and for those who can participate, activities such as puzzles and crafts are provided. Meals are prepared with each person’s preferences, limitations and dietary needs in mind. Morning Tea is my personal favorite, with a cookie of course. And when I can come to the weekly special guests, I always enjoy myself, singing along or applauding the performances.

Mom has lived at Mission Villa for the past two years and I am grateful to the staff and administrators for how they care for mom. What makes Mission Villa exceptional are the people who take care of the residents. The staff (owners, administrators, caregivers and cooks) fully understand how to treat and care for an individual with Alzheimers/Dementia. I can trust that mom is given dignity, respect and shown compassion and love as she travels this journey. I also have peace of mind knowing mom is safe and well cared for in my absence. They truly have become my extended family. I highly recommend Mission Villa as a place for your loved one when they need assisted care. They are an answer to prayer!

Mission Villa is now home to my mother for almost a year. I spent many months visiting other facilities in the area. Once I walked through the doors I knew this was the place for us! Every time I visit mom is happy and well cared for. Loved ones are always welcome and encouraged to visit. The environment is cheerful, clean and warm. Mission Villa has become extended family, from owner to care givers. They are kind, trustworthy and greatly appreciated! I highly recommend Mission Villa if you are in need of a safe and nurturing environment for your loved one.
