I lived at Garden Court from January 2022 until August 2023 and I have gladly given a 5 rating because any area that may not be a 5 is a priority for Chris Tucker the Executive Director and staff. The Executive Director has skills and expertise way beyond many others in Executive Level Management positions Let me give you an example I had been at Garden Court less than 3 months when I shared with Chris some nutritional needs I had as well as tactful suggestions about some of the menu items. First it is important to offer a bit of context, from day 1 Chris introduced himself to me, he regularly solicits feedback. He is totally willing to be fully accountable for everything at Garden Court. I find this extremely rare and it speaks to Chris understanding of what is required for leaders to offer servant leadership. Next I have held management level positions, I have been a rental property owner., a successful entrepreneur and a part of countless non profit businesses so I am intimately aware of the myriad of challenges and factors leaders and managers face. And in my experience change doesn’t happen overnight and managers are often frustrated with the realities of operating within budget constraints and hiring and holding onto top talent. Chris Tucker demands change his leadership model is extremely supportive of his team and offers clear guidance, communicates expectations and he also has a standard of zero tolerance for mediocrity and violations for the culture of excellence customer care . One may question how long it will take if at all possible to turn a C+ Chef and kitchen staff into A performance Chris demonstrated that this can in fact be done rather quickly and changes consistent and sustained. Quite frankly I am in awe of this man and so very appreciative of my time as a resident of Garden Court I have had meals at Garden Court that are prepared far better than some local spots here in Santa Barbara I have to mention Angie the office manager because her voice and her very Presence always blessed me and offered me a sense of well being Angie leads the team in decorating for the holidays. Angie gives attention to detail and I always have the feeling that she loves doing her job exceeding expectations certainly from the residents. We know that we are valued, because every effort is made to make Garden Court a comfortable home a welcoming community and one that is resident first. I have had a number of challenges over the time that I lived at Garden Court including health issues resulting from almost 80 lb weight gain during COVID Chris immediately became a champion, advocate for and financial support of my need to make multiple trips to UCLA for weight loss procedures and follow up Anyone who has struggled with weight for as long as I have knows there are dark days and even darker nights because so often a 5 lb weight loss a week later is a pound and a half weight gain. We fall off the wagon and just how well we are doing at any point is visible to everyone even 5lbs gain or loss is recognizable. Chris Tucker cheered me on continually affirming how proud he was of me and how well I looked. I am a big observer and one day in the dining room for lunch I observed Chris in conversation with residents going from table to table. And I thought to myself I don’t care how much he earns, it simply is not enough for the positive impact this man has on the lives of vulnerable seniors, he has a way of sincerity recognizing and acknowledging things so specific to each of us that we truly feel special and very valued. I needed to move to be able to prepare my own foods according to a strict food plan and this was supported by two letter from my doctor. The process of getting moved and all the many different things to consider was overwhelming for me. Chris met with me to get a good idea of what my needs and priorities were. I highly recommend Garden Court Audrey Addison Williams
