Luther oaks in Bloomington Illinois on the surface appears to be a most welcoming warm establishment. Unfortunately this is all for show. Once they have your money and they will ask you for a lot of money they could care less whether you live or die. Concerns and problems fall on deaf ears. The food is grotesque, the supposed cleaning they do is subpar I can't figure out what it is they clean. You will be told anything they can think of lie upon lie in order to get their hands on your money once they have that anything you've been told goes out the window. They plead ignorance they make up rules that you're never told about until after the fact, then they do their best to make you feel like an idiot because you did not comply with said rules. I can assure you had they been made clear at the time of signing the check we would have gone elsewhere. There are several very nice care facilities in this area upon hindsight it would have been in our best interest to choose one of them.

My mother is at a point in her life where she will need this kind of facility soon. There are a few in the area (Bloomington), but this one met all the criteria.<br><br>Before visiting, she raised a number of concerns about what she might lose and how her life might get … smaller. After visiting, she was hopeful, positive, and excited at the possibility of living there. She realized that by throwing off the responsibilities of taking care of an aging house that’s become too large, her life could grow through easy social interaction and a life that’s unfettered by so many things that have been weighing her down.<br><br>She hasn’t made the move yet, and we can’t speak to daily life at Luther Oaks, but from all we have seen, it is exactly what she needs next.

Response to LO: thank you for your response and suggestion. Please note this is the first time my review has ever been responded to, so I appreciate that it has been. My family has spoken to the individual you mention. More than once.<br><br>*******<br><br>Update #3 - Still awful. Still losing good employees and not appearing to care. Still have never seen even a picture of the ‘onsite’ Director. Don’t even know who this person is so they must keep banker’s hours. I’d think the Director of a facility who receives complaints would be more visible, specifically at key hours of complaints like dinner time. Why is this person not doing observations of the people they employee? How are they not helping to change bed linens or hygienic needs of patients when severely and consistently understaffed? Would this person be able to handle the expectations of their employed CNA’s and Nurses?<br><br>I hate that my loved one is here and if I could do something about it, I would have months ago.<br><br>The complaints mentioned in my very first post about this place, are still the same and somehow worse all at the same time.<br><br>**********<br><br>Edited Edition - if I could give 0, I would. It’s 3 months from my original post and somehow….things have only gotten worse for my loved one. I can’t say other places are much better, however no elderly person should be stating that they ‘feel forgotten’ by staff. Once my loved one has finished their time here on earth, I will return to provide an updated review. It doesn’t feel safe to give a full review because I’ve seen first hand what ‘complaining’ will get you.<br>******<br>The 1 star rating comes from extreme disappointment in the administration team and a handful of on the floor and dietary staff interactions. Extreme staffing shortages for hands-on workers while additional Admin positions were created and yet nobody can explain what they do.<br><br>There is no clear path of communication, it’s not unusual to speak with a staff member about care plans that are supposed to be in place and the response is ‘oh.’<br><br>Some employees who interact with the patients are wonderful, so know this. And there really are some gold level employees here. But the turnover is ridiculous and it impacts the residents who live there. Yes staffing is a problem everywhere but I defer back to the new, unknown positions that were created and wonder if that money could have gone to CNAs/Nurses.<br><br>Yes there are issues with day to day operations and this falls at the feet of the Director, Director of Nursing, and Assistant Director of Nursing and even higher than that. If a new position needed to be created, perhaps it should be around billing so they have some available to answer the phone because so far, it’s silence and closed office doors when an explanation of a charge is needed.<br><br>If there are issues that arise with your loved one, know that you and you alone, will have to be their advocate. Don’t put them in the skilled nursing wing. Perhaps the other side (assisted living) is better? I can’t speak to this.
