About Avalon Health & Rehab Center

Avalon Health & Rehab Center (also known as Laurels of Mount Vernon) is a 99-bed skilled nursing and long-term care facility in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

The facility draws consistent praise from families for its staff warmth and responsiveness. Multiple reviewers highlight staff who "go out of their way" to create engaging activities and maintain frequent communication with families, with one family noting staff "answer the phone live during business hours." Therapy services and the admissions process receive specific commendation. Families also report clean rooms and a welcoming atmosphere. One family wrote, "They became like family to me and took excellent care."

However, earlier reviews surface serious concerns about staffing levels, unresolved care plans, and financial management practices that some families found unacceptable, issues significant enough to prompt transfers to other facilities. These complaints stand in stark contrast to the overwhelmingly positive recent feedback.

Avalon holds a 4.3/5 rating across 145 Google reviews. The polarized nature of feedback, with most recent reviews highly positive but some earlier ones documenting significant problems, suggests important variation in experience or possible changes in operations over time.

My mother stayed there for a couple months and she had 2 insurances and they covered everything and they wanted her whole check to stay there on top of the insurance and only leave her 50 dollars to live on and half of the time when she needed something they would not answer her call light I would not recommend that place to anyone and some of the staff was rude. To her

What can I say about this nursing home? Well how about how you guys tried to leave my grandmother with only $50 a month. You guys took all of her check which was almost $2,000 a month and left her with $50 to survive on. And then YOUR lawyer told my elderly grandmother " well what do you expect it for free?". What kind of lawyer talks to an elderly human person like that? That's awful. You guys are a ripoff. You guys are scam. You guys literally take from the elderly and for what reason I don't know but it's disgusting behavior The people leaving positive reviews must have great money. Because what you guys are doing to my grandmother is horrible. It's deplorable. And it's not even right.
