From the moment we walked in, we were sold! For the price, the rooms are so spacious, staff is incredible and food is delicious. There are always things for the residents to do and memories for them to make. From Eluisa and her staff, to the kitchen staff and cleaning crews, everyone was kind, professional and compassionate. The location is also extremely convenient for quick lunches, shopping and right off the highway and route 7.

EDIT #2: After a period of great difficulty and serious concerns due to some very poor management choices, I’m glad to say that Keystone has improved in substantial ways by bringing back a seasoned and experienced Director. He has heard the issues presented by residents, families and staff and is following up on these concerns by making some important changes. He’s also brought back a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to the community which can be felt in general throughout the building. The staff I’ve spoken to seem much happier and the turnover rate has substantially decreased as a result. I’m very glad to be able to raise my rating to 5 stars.<br><br>EDIT: After writing the last review, I’ve unfortunately had some more serious concerns regarding the treatment of staff at Keystone. Many people have been let go in recent months, and if not let go, then almost forced to quit due to unfair expectations and downright mistreatment by the administration. Just recently a very well known and liked recreational assistant was fired on the spot. Escorted out of the building with absolutely no warning, as if she’d done something wrong. She was a lovely woman, beloved by the residents, including my mother.<br><br>There were quite a few similar cases I will not go into here. Anyone who dares to speak up there with any concerns seems to punished in subtle and not so subtle ways. I’ve spoken with numerous residents other than my mother and they are shocked and saddened by the abrupt firing and /or mistreatment of people they considered their friends, especially those who seemed to work the hardest at providing a supportive environment. I hope UPPER a management will quickly do something about the current leadership there before more of the best workers are driven out or fired, and that they will work hard to restore what was once a friendly and secure environment for the residents.<br><br>I will gladly revise this review should things change there but for now it is quite concerning. Look how many of the recent 5 star reviews are from staff. I know for a fact that they actually ask the staff to write positive reviews. What happens if you say no? Pretty sure that people who are afraid of repercussions just comply. It’s a very shady practice and I hope they stop.<br><br>ORIGINAL REVIEW: It’s a great place overall. It is a clean and well run facility with an amazing activities/recreation program and very good food. The only reason for 4 stars is that they don’t seem to value some of their most effective workers. My mother is in this facility and over the course of time I’ve learned that some of the best people there, including nurses, aides and kitchen staff, have needed to leave due to low pay and not being able to get merit based raises.<br><br>Also, you are not allowed to personally give monetary gifts to the staff at the Holidays but instead must pool it and it only goes to full time workers based on some sort of scale. Some of the best workers barely get anything because they are lower in the scale I guess. They get no bonus at all from the agency itself it seems. I hope the management will consider what they can do to make it easier to get and most importantly KEEP the best workers possible. I also think they should allow residents to personally tip the workers that they feel most deserve it and who have helped them the most. There could be a limit on the amount and this gift could possibly even be cleared with management so that there is no danger of the elderly population being taken advantage of in any way.<br><br>Thank you to Keystone for the wonderful overall care and I hope some consideration will be given to my suggestions for improvement.

I can echo others’ concerns about treatment of staff. While there were many, many excellent CNAs, they were treated so poorly by middle and senior management during the time my loved one lived there. Consequently, the turn over rate of staff was disruptive and the facility relied heavily on agency nurses and CNAs (basically substitutes). We even went through three managers of memory care and two directors of nursing during our nine month residency. That level of turnover illustrates poor, toxic management at senior levels.<br><br>During our time there, evidently multiple families filed complaints with the CT ombudsman’s office and the CT Dept of Public Health. I believe the Danbury Police were also involved at one point. These complaints are public record and may be obtained by calling each entity. For our family, I’m grateful we had security cameras and highly encourage anyone living in any assisted living to install them.<br><br>Again, to be clear, for the most part, the people providing direct care were very good to the residents, despite working under very difficult conditions. We ultimately decided to leave after nine months due to a variety of issues, the most serious of which was medication not being dosed properly. The assumption is that happened due to the use of substitute nurses who worked with little to no orientation or oversight. The facility claimed the reason was that the pharmacy must have dispensed too many tablets of a controlled substance. Sorry, not buying it.

I’ve been to a few events at this lovely senior living community and the staff could not have been more welcoming or professional. The building itself is also very bright and cheerful. Seniors were having fun!
