Our mother lived at Jennings McCall for almost two years, and overall we had a very positive experience. The facility itself is beautiful, updated, spacious, and well maintained. Mom’s apartment was bright, roomy, comfortable, and had a lovely courtyard view. The grounds were always attractive, the common areas were clean and welcoming, and the dining room was especially nice with its fireplace, table centerpieces, and warm atmosphere. Her room was cleaned regularly and consistently stocked with essentials such as toilet paper and soap. We also appreciated having access to the private dining room for family gatherings, which we used several times. The staff truly stood out. The nursing staff provided excellent care and gave our family great peace of mind. They monitored our mother’s needs closely, communicated well with us, and were always willing to answer questions or address concerns. The caregivers, medication technicians, and aides were genuinely kind, caring, friendly, and responsive. Our Care Coordinator, Kurt, was exceptional—he communicated regularly, worked hard to ensure our mother’s needs were met, and always brought a sense of humor that brightened difficult days. Maintenance requests were handled quickly, and the facility was always clean, organized, and secure. The food was generally good, with decent portions and variety, and there were plenty of activities available for residents to enjoy. We also found the location convenient, and parking was usually readily available when we visited. As with any facility, there were a few challenges. We noticed a decline in care quality when temporary agency caregivers were used, and it sometimes appeared that those caregivers were not fully trained on individual resident needs. When our mother became completely immobile, there was a brief adjustment period while a consistent bathing routine and meal-delivery process were established, though both were eventually resolved and worked well thereafter. While the apartment and facility were generally cleaned and maintained very well, there were frequent instances when the toilet was not cleaned after caregivers assisted with bowel movements, and my sister and I often found ourselves cleaning it during our visits. We were also disappointed when the call-button system was changed to one that no longer included fall detection. Breakfast options could have offered a little more variety as well. Despite these concerns, the staff consistently demonstrated compassion and a genuine desire to provide good care. We are grateful to everyone at Jennings McCall who helped care for our mother and supported our family throughout her time there.
