Independence Square | An RHF Community

Independence Square is a subsidized housing community for seniors aged 62 and older and those over 18 who are mobility impaired, located in Evansville, Indiana. Rent is based on approximately 30% of a resident's gross income, with the remainder covered by a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development subsidy. The community offers one-bedroom apartments as well as more-accessible units designed for those with mobility challenges, ranging from approximately 546 to 805 square feet.

The community is conveniently situated near Deaconess Hospital and other medical facilities, as well as Main Street restaurants and retail shops. Residents have access to the city's METS transit service, which stops at the community and provides routes to grocery stores, department stores, local restaurants, and other locations throughout Evansville.

Residents enjoy frequent social activities including parties, potluck dinners, bingo, card games, board games, and seasonal activities such as gardening. The community features a puzzle and craft room available daily, and operates a Project H.A.N.D.S. program that includes knitting and sewing activities. A monthly calendar lists all activities and their dates and times.

The building includes two elevators at the main entrance, with intercom-controlled and automatically opening main entrances. Residents receive apartment keys, locked mailbox keys, and access keys to the main entry. The community provides a coin-operated laundry center on the first floor with folding and hanging areas, and maintains garbage and recycling centers on each floor with chutes for convenient trash disposal.
