Idaho State Veterans Home - Boise

Idaho State Veterans Home - Boise is an 80-bed skilled nursing care facility that includes a 17-bed special care unit for veterans with Alzheimer's disease or related conditions. Rooms are individualized to provide residents with maximum privacy, and each has windows and individually controlled heating and air conditioning. Double-occupancy resident rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the facility is arranged on one level with a centrally located nurse station.

The building features a physical therapy center, a spacious dining room, pleasant common areas, a large covered patio, and courtyards. A team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists provide custom programs designed to enhance residents' quality of life and individual skills and abilities. The facility is beautifully landscaped and paved throughout for easy wheelchair and walking access, and large windows allow residents to watch wildlife on the grounds, including Canada geese, ducks, deer, squirrels, chipmunks, and various birds.

Services available to residents include extensive activity programs, onsite veteran and social services, library services, and transportation to medical appointments. Residents enjoy recreational and social activities, outings, and other programs that keep them active, independent, and involved. Additional facilities include an activity center, gardens, and a chapel.

Admission is available to peacetime or wartime veterans and spouses of eligible veterans, with wartime veterans given priority admission status. Applicants must have been discharged honorably, be Idaho residents, and be unemployable due to age, illness, or disability. Applicants must apply for and become eligible for Medicaid benefits or pay the established maximum monthly nursing care charge; the home is Medicare and Medicaid certified and assists applicants through the Medicaid and VA pension application processes. Veterans may be admitted without regard to financial status.

The community offers volunteer opportunities such as one-on-one time with residents, dining room service, arts and crafts activities, and bingo games.
