I took my mother here to register with them and the behavior of the director was inexcusably reprehensible. As the girl assistant asked if mom had any health issues, I said dementia, and the director literally barked from her desk, "MUST BE ACCOMPANIED!" Mom's dementia was in early stages at that point, and this response was quite nasty, but it didn't stop there; there was no desk or surface to lay your possessions on, and they had asked for her drivers license. The woman turns as starts laughing at her as she starts trying to dig through her purse on the floor, saying "Is she really emptying her pocketbook on the floor?"

I asked mom several times if she wanted to return there, and just got a flat "no." A well-deserved NO. That director shouldn't be anywhere near seniors.

All these comments about it being nice and clean baffle me. The place is a former school cafeteria and looks like a dump. There's nothing hospitable about it.

Great for anyone retired or still working, and wanting to get involved. My wife and I are one of the youngest ones there: 64 & 61. However this doesn't matter. HSC is clearly a well run friendly place. There are many parties and celebrations with live music. We are making many new friends, from many different backgrounds. Surprisingly, we are discovering how many friends from our church and community at large also attend. There are Staff and Volunteers always ready to help you, or converse with you. Other cornerstones are the various programs starting from 9am till about 3:30pm: from simple / higher levels of exercises, basic to advanced guitar lessons. Lunches are so filling, that members actually bring Tupperware, to bring home what they can't finish. The contribution is up to $3. However the meals served elsewhere will easily go for over $10+. All the meals are cooked fresh, diversified, that consists of all the food groups.

The only negative is that the elevator remains broken for many months now. This forces members to either force themselves up/down the stairs. For members with ambulation issues or other disabilities this is creating a dangerous situation. Members are otherwise, forced to go out the lunch room doors in the cold (or extreme heat), and make a long walk around and up the hill to get to the 2nd floor.

In defense of the TOH, they had realized the need for a "shuttle bus" for taking clients from the lunch room to around the corner, up the hill to the 2nd floor outside entrance. This has been more than several months now, while the TOH grapple with the vetting process in finding someone to actually completely replace the elevator in it's entirety, because it reportedly was determined that the current elevator was no longer repairable.

This could become a major lawsuit for the TOH, if it doesn't act quicker, before someone gets seriously injured, or dies of pneumonia/flu or heat exhaustion, depending on the time of year.
.
