Holy Family Home

Holy Family Home in Philadelphia is operated by the Little Sisters of the Poor, a congregation that arrived in the city on August 24, 1869 to care for the elderly poor. The congregation's work in Philadelphia began at 18th and Jefferson Street and later expanded to include St. Michael's Home in Germantown and Sacred Heart Home in Southwest Philadelphia, which opened in 1902. In the early 1970s that home was rebuilt and renamed Holy Family Home, the name it carries today.

The community continues the mission of its foundress, Jeanne Jugan, the first Little Sister of the Poor, who was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1982 and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009. The Little Sisters describe their approach as one of trust in God's Providence and reliance on the goodness of others to help provide for residents' needs.

Support for Holy Family Home comes through several programs, including the Association Jeanne Jugan, the Lend a Helping Hand initiative, and a Volunteer and Youth Service Program, which engage the wider community in assisting the Little Sisters in their care of residents.
