When I was<br>Taken to this facility from Alton Memorial Hospital, when the EMT’s opened door, there was a strong smell of urine, and emt said “are you sure this is the place”? I said, I had no choice , this is only VA contract nursing home in South Western Illinois! The place is very old and has old equipment, poor lighting, and no patient amenities to speak of! I was in a room barely large enough for one patient but 2 patients shared room, there are communal bathrooms and showers on the floor, if you are mobile, no running water in rooms to wash up or brush your teeth! For a shower, I was taken by wheel chair by two women to a shower room with a chair and was disrobed and I was able to wash hair and clean myself! I had no contact with an MD to try<br>To get my pain meds increased and had. To argue with rn’s about pain meds being dispensed! On the night before my release the med nurse announced they had run out of my pain medication and when I checked out the filling day, I still had not been given any pain meds! We were told the pharmacy they used wouldn’t deliver until 5:00 pm that evening so we. Settled for a Rx to cvs for a 5 day supply of medication! Shame on VA for putting Veterans in such a place!

My father recently spent approximately two weeks at Highland Health Care Center due to a failed hip replacement that left him at high risk for falls.<br><br>Unfortunately, our experience was very different from the impression created by the facility’s online photos and reviews. Upon entering the facility, I observed a strong odor of urine, damaged flooring repaired with duct tape, poor lighting, crowded rooms, and generally unclean conditions.<br><br>More concerning were issues related to resident care. My father reported being left on the toilet for more than 30 minutes on multiple occasions while waiting for assistance. He missed multiple meals and received only one shower during his stay. I also observed residents who appeared confused wandering the hallways without obvious supervision.<br><br>What saddened me most was that the staff did not seem uncaring—they seemed overwhelmed. During discharge, I witnessed a nurse struggling to manage physician communication, pharmacy delays, and patient needs simultaneously. My impression was that the facility may be facing staffing or operational challenges that are affecting resident care.<br><br>As both a family member and a healthcare designer, I understand how much the physical environment and quality of care affect a person’s dignity, comfort, and well-being. Based on our experience, I would encourage families to visit in person and ask detailed questions before selecting this facility.

It’s obvious you are working very hard to improve the quality of your facilities.<br>It really shows. Your staff has been top notch from the beginning so all the improvement has been done to the facilities. Thank you so much for allowing us to do a communion service at your facility.
