I was a little surprised when I saw the Google reviews for Hermitage, but then I realized they are all “several years” old. My mother is currently at Hermitage (and has been for almost 2 years ) . Prior to that we had another family member in the facility as well.
I am amazed at the inefficiencies and problems that the facility has. Both residents were in the Healthcare portion, NOT independent living.
This is a Pinnacle Living facility, previously a part of the Virginia United Methodist Homes, Inc. group and according to the book, they gave me, it still is. Quite frankly, I am ashamed of the United Methodist Church for operating a facility in this way. My father was a United Methodist Minister and would not approve.
Since my wife and I have been dealing with them, they are on the 3rd Executive Director and I believe 3rd Director of Nursing. One of the elevators in The Grove is down frequently, and the other elevator is all the way down the hall in a different section of the building, which is a long way to go for someone in a wheelchair.
My mother’s phone system (their system) is down frequently, but for some reason, the staff phones are not ? Different platform I presume, but maybe the residents should have their phones on the same platform?
They say they are building a new building, but plan on that being several years I would guess. In the meantime, loved ones must stay in the current facility, which appears to receive a less favorable budget.
PLEASE NOTE THAT MANY OF THE “CUSTOMER FACING” STAFF ARE DOING THE BEST THEY CAN WITH WHAT THEY HAVE TO WORK WITH.

My mother came to Hermitage House when she was 100 years old- she had been living on her own with relatives checking in on her several times a day. From day 1 Mom loved Hermitage House- they took her to all the activities - pizza parties, music programs, bingo, etc plus made sure she was escorted to & from the dinning room for every meal. Mom met so many wonderful people- both residents & employees. My siblings looked at many choices of care for her- Hermitage House exceeded our expectations!
