It’s hard to put into words what this place has meant to our family. My mom lived here for 14 years, and over time it truly became her home. The staff were not just caregivers — they became family. They showed her love, dignity, patience, and incredible skill every single day. They knew her routines, her smiles, and her struggles, and they met her with compassion through it all. We all have flaws and I am no exception. My mom could be grumpy (to put it mildly) and honestly so could I. I didn’t understand so many things that were required or just different from home but I learned. They were not perfect and neither was I. I have never met a family that was. Greendale sure had a hard job putting up with me and mom. We all survived the roller coaster. I smile when I think of all the stuff we had in her room. All the apples she hoarded for the first 5 years. Over the last two years of her life, we were also blessed to have the support of Gentiva Hospice working alongside the nursing home staff. Their nurses and team brought an added layer of comfort, compassion, and guidance during such a difficult time. We are deeply thankful that we were allowed to have both teams caring for her, supporting not only our mom, but our entire family when we needed it most. In February 2026, my mom passed away here. That day, we didn’t just lose our mother — we also felt like we lost an extended family who had walked alongside us for so many years. They allowed this journey to end with Grace. They extended me every courtesy. It takes a very special kind of person to do this work, and Greendale is filled with those people. I found a sister there - we will forever share mom. She knew her voice better than mine at the end. You see I was no longer Jerry, she would call me Dad. We will forever be grateful for the comfort they gave her and the peace they gave us, knowing she was loved and cared for so deeply. Thank you for giving my mom a home, not just a room, and for walking with us through her final chapter with such grace and love.
