Greencastle of Mulford

Greencastle of Mulford is an affordable housing community in Rockford, Illinois, consisting of 115 apartments. The community is one of the few HUD resident communities in the United States to offer daily food service to residents and operates as a nonprofit supported by federal funding and personal donations.

Located in a residential area with nearby grocery, pharmacy, medical care facilities, and public transportation, the community provides large indoor and outdoor spaces for resident activities and programming. Social engagement activities include card and board games, outdoor recreation such as bean bag baseball and Connect 4, and daily coffee hour gatherings. Residents participate in weekly Bible studies and community fellowship opportunities that help them stay physically and mentally active.

The community offers several enrichment programs designed to foster connection and preserve residents' legacies. The Leaving My Legacy project allows residents to share their stories and have them documented with professional photography. A Passport to Technology program teaches residents to use smartphones, computers, email, internet, and social media. The community also welcomes certified therapy animals to visit and reduce stress among residents.

Greencastle of Mulford serves residents from many cultures and backgrounds, with interpretation services available in Russian, Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin, Polish, and Spanish. English as a second language instruction is available for residents who need it. The community actively recruits volunteers and community partners to support residents through art and music instruction, fitness classes, nutrition education, healthcare services, and religious studies.
