Our mother passed away in January at their establishment. There is a payment overage in her account. The accounts receivable person will not return our emails or telephone calls after many attempts.

My mother was admitted for rehab. The staff was all very welcoming. At one point, my mother said that if she couldn't be home, she would like to be there. We were really impressed with Audrey, Makayla, Jessica, LaTisha, and a CNA who we never got her name. My mom adored LaTisha and the other CNA. The only reason for not giving it five stars is because there seemed to be some communication issues. Dates were scheduled and then forgotten about when we arrived. Other than that, I would recommend it.

If I could leave a NEGATVE STAR 🌟 I would. My mom was transferred from ECU after a hip fracture repair. She has no medical issues but needed therapy. We are from Jones county and requested Bayview but they did not have a bed available, so with this facility having 5 stars we chose this one even though it was a 30 minute trip from home. I'm very hands on with my mother's care and was going to be there every day because I know how facilities like these work. I was about 15 minutes behind the transport ambulance. I stopped at the information desk and she wasn't very welcoming but directed me to the nursing desk for my mom's room number. RED FLAG #1. A nice lady heard me and said she's in 115B. As I proceeded down the hall I noticed it was very warm/hot. I said OK, elderly people are usually cold so they have it warm in here for them. I walk in to find my mom basically thrown in a bed with the call button laid beside her. The sheets they used on the stretcher were still jumbled up under her where they slid her off the stretcher. I said has anyone been in to get you admitted, she said someone came in asked me about the bruises on my arms and gave me the call button. RED FLAG #2 and #3. I hit the call button not 1 but 3 times. And finally an aide came in, pouring sweat. I asked is something wrong with your air, she said it's broke, I said did it just happen she said " no it's been 2 days, you can go buy her a fan " RED FLAG #4. I replied "no I'm not buying her a fan when I have AC at the house. " I then asked to speak with the social worker, she went to go get her. We waited, a LPN came to the door and said I'll be with you in a few. We waited. Maintenance came in and said he would be back with a TV remote for my mom. I told him don't bother she isn't staying. I said if you're maintenance, tell me whats going on with the AC and why it's 95 degrees in here. He stated that the unit for this wing has to be replaced and they would be out some time this week to replace it. At this time the Activites director came by to welcome her, I asked her for the social worker or nurse director. She informed me the social worker wasn't there today. I explained we weren't going to stay and she said I'll find someone for you. The LPN came back, I explained the same to her, that this was unacceptable and my mom wasn't staying. The nurse director finally came, along with the therapist and even though they tried to convince her to stay over night, my mother stated she wasn't staying, she wasn't trying to be ugly but she didn't want to stay. We signed an AMA (against medical advice) and began the process to leave. They did bring my mom a dinner tray that she declined and it was a salad with a little bit of chicken on top. I feel sorry for the ones that can't eat salad. My son and sister brought my mom's transport chair from the house and we left. NOW, to explain, yes this may have been a one time thing with the AC, but I concur with the other reviews. The facility is very dated. This was a 2 bed room even though the other bed was empty. The was an old recliner for both patients and one folding metal chair. The beds had NO RAILS! My mother had nothing to pull on to sit up or even prevent her from falling off the bed and she was a fall risk. RED FLAG#5 and #6. The bed linens were old and worn. The room itself didn't look clean and then I found the shared bathroom. It was a toilet in a closet that was connected between this room and the neighboring room. The toilet was low and they had placed a beside chair over it to have handles to assist and it was nasty. The shower was down the hall. RED FLAG #6 #7 #8 #9#10... I'M DONE I'm sorry for the ones that stay, there's not many options and it's sad. I feel like my mom was in the last room on the hall and no one would have attended to her if I left her. Fortunately I am able to take care of my mom and I know not everyone is able to do so, but research your options, be present in your loved ones care, pop up at random times and believe what they tell you.

I spent 10 weeks doing rehab to strengthen my legs. I had fallen and broken my ankle/fibula. During my time at Grantsbrook, I never once felt afraid. Everyone was so friendly. The staff very professional. The CNA's saw that I got daily care. The laundry staff did a marvelous job with my clothing, always returning it to my closet. I enjoyed meeting with residents during the many activites I attended. PT and OT therapists were outstanding and very patient, as well as encouraging. The nursung staff was efficient and concerned. If ever I need more help, Grantsbrook is where I want ti return! Thank you everyone, for taking such good care of me!

Please do NOT send your family here. I read the reviews and thought maybe it wasn't that bad really, well I was shocked. My father was admitted on a Sunday around 5pm from ECU, and we were already working to get him moved less than 12 hours later. There was one facility nurse who was great but she was essentially the only one working on his wing. There were visiting nurses who could also vouch for the persistant laziness and attitude of their regular staff, always having to clean up after them or take up where they fail. We left when visiting hours ended the first night and my father was never turned or changed the rest of that night. He already had muscle atrophy from being at ECU for 3 weeks and some bed sores had started so he laying in his own urine until my mother got there 12 hours later was NOT what we expected at a "skilled" nursing facility. He did appreciate the physical therapists, but that was it. The building is subpar. The food wasn't identifiable, including some "chuck wagon" steak that looked more like something off the side of the road in gravy. My dad was there for 4 days. Probably our worst mistake ever for his health to put him there and those 4 days were probably some of the worst and most demeaning for a really great man who deserved better. One of the days my daughter and I had to turn him, change him, and we had hit the nurse call button multiple times. My daughter after 15 minutes of us holding him up, eventually had to go find a nurse to assist us to finish cleaning and turning, and to get linens for him to lay on. Some individuals there don't have family that can sit with them and if they are not mobile like my father wasn't, God Bless them because they'll need a miracle to be treated like humans. My daughter also brought the same resident back to his room twice in two days because he needed help and the actual staff was MIA yet again. The social worker didn't work with us until I had my daughter stand outside her door at 4pm until she walked out because she had not come to talk to my dad or mother as we had asked. There are no doctors there on a daily basis or apparently one on call so to get any change in meds was not happening or for anyone like a doctor to examine him. We ended up moving my dad to Pruitt in New Bern near the hospital (highly recommended) but by then the damage was done. I have no doubts his lack of the simplest of care at Grantsbrook set my dad up for failure no matter where he went after, and their atrocious treatment of him and the other people there should be considered abusive. I'm sure the staff was happy to see us go, from the bottom to the top, because if you're not putting up a fight for your family here to be taken care of then you're either not visiting or you must have the VIP treatment. One of the last days there no one came to check on my dad after 9am, including change him, turn him, anything until after 6pm when I got there. Luckily my mother was there to help him but she is also disabled. She told the night nurse, who was a visiting nurse about it and only after they found out he was getting transferred did the staff start checking and essentially do their job, although at that point it felt like they were trying to suck up. The entire establishment less the one nurse who was carrying our entire side of the hall most days, should be ashamed of themselves and their work ethic. Maybe things have changed since December 18th when my dad was transferred out but he was gone from us 12 days later no thanks to their failures. If you can't afford anywhere else and have no other options, God Bless you and good luck.
