Our family recently admitted a loved-one with late stage Alzheimer’s to this facility (to the memory care floor) due to needing a facility that accepts financial assistance, since the private pay facility she had been in for just under two years exhausted her financially. Christina coordinated our tour of the facility and offered our loved one a beautiful room. She was very responsive and accomodating! Fast forward to move-in day. Upon completion of a long day of moving our loved one and items into her room, the nurse that runs the floor enters, and informs us of all of the "things" that their facility cannot provide to our family member. This included not being able to adminster medications to her, not being able to crush pills for her. Also letting us know there is only a nurse on duty Mon-Fri during normal business hours. Then she informs us that the level of care that they can offer her is a "step down" from the facility we just moved her from! As a family with a loved one with a degenerative disease - this is NOT a facility we would have moved her to if we had known all of this ahead of time. Our loved one has a mediciation in which she needs her heart rate read prior to taking it. If it's too low, it would be dangerous to her. Since there was no nurse on duty over the weekend and the aids cannot take vitals, we were told she either had to take ALL of her medications or NONE on the weekends. Our loved one had a visitor over the weekend (moved in Monday - this visit was on Saturday). She inquired about her medications and was shown that syringes that contained Dilaudid and Lorazepam were being admistered to our loved one on a "as needed" basis that was being judged by the aides (even though they told us that mediciations cannot be adminstered to the residents).. I honestly don't know if this is legal to be done by someone other than a registered nurse? Come the following Monday, our loved one was "bedridden" - her visitor was told she had a mobility issue and the staff didn't want to hurt themselves nor our loved one - so they left her in her bed for a day and a half (at that point) and never contacted the family members that were listed as contacts. Needless to say - we had her moved from the facility the next day. During her assesment at her private-pay facility (residents are assesed prior to being accepted to a facility), the Director and the Director of Nursing sat with this Director of Nursing and made her aware of all of our loved ones needs. The Director of Nursing should be ashamed of herself for accepting our loved one as a resident knowing they would not be able to facilitate the care she needs. Ultimately I would not recommend this facility for someone with a cognitive issue - I think it is best suited as an assisted living facility.
