Everything you fear in a nursing home, plus a scam.<br>So my father was in the ICU for over a month with aspiration pneumonia. They said it's likely he'll just keep getting it and it would eventually kill him, but he wanted to fight. When he was finally cleared of the first round, Medicare refused to pay for the hospital's first four suggestions. This was number five for a reason. The entrance is opulent to convince visitors that the place is well furnished. The patient rooms are very different. The first time he was there, the call button didn't work. I had to go find a nurse. If I wasn't there, he would've had to wait God knows how long for attention. Later when I tried to tried to go wash my hands in the bathroom, I found the sink didn't work. He got bounced to a hospital after his O2 levels dropped dangerously low. They took care of him there.<br>He got sent back here after stabilizing. It was clear he was dying at this point. I knew it, he knew it, the doctors knew it. They said since he can't do rehab, Medicare won't pay for this place either. But they assured me he had a few days of assessment time that they could keep him for. I told them I can't afford anything Medicare won't cover. Oh and for the record, the bathroom in his new room didn't work either. Neither did the one small TV the two residents had to share. Lovely place. He wanted to die at home, and requested to be sent home with hospice. I tried to contact their admissions director or whoever they said I had to talk to. He wasn't in. I emailed. He didn't answer. He was out for something like 4 days. When he did get back, he said they can't release him because he's too sick.<br>Mull that one over. They said he's too sick to die at home. Shortly after, he started getting worse. He requested to be sent back to the ER to get intubated for what time he had left. He passed away there the first night. Not at home liked he wanted to. Because these people refused to release him.<br>And keep that "refused to release him" part in mind for the next one: now they're harassing me for over $2000. I told them I didn't have the money right up front and didn't okay ANYTHING that wasn't covered by Medicare. They refused to release him, and now they want >$2000 for a few nights with a broken call light and no bathroom.<br>The only positive thing I have to say is that some of the staff, especially the nurses, genuinely seem to care. But they're understaffed and underequipped. Whenever I said something didn't work, they'd say they'll tell maintenance. If maintenance does exist, they too are critically understaffed and underequipped. If things as basic and essential as the call light or the bathroom don't work... I mean, come on. This is the kind of thing they do Dateline episodes on.

After neglecting my mom for 4 years, they tried to extort over $2,800 from me. Said we 'owed' it from 2 years ago. They cannot keep their books straight as I've never been financially responsible. That is Soc Sec, Medicare and Medicaid's job. Perhaps they 'misplaced' the $$? Do NOT EVER USE THIS GODFORSAKEN place!!!!!!!

Our son was in an serious accident and he requires total care. He has special needs and is now a patient there since May 30th. The staff is excellent, very caring to meet his needs and learn his ways. Communication is very good and we are thankful for their attentive care.
