Our family entrusted this facility with the care of my mother-in-law during one of the most difficult and vulnerable times of our lives. She had rapidly declined due to dementia, and we were assured that the staff could provide the level of care she needed. Based on those assurances, we made a very quick decision to move her there. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. Rather than feeling supported, it seemed as though the staff quickly became overwhelmed by the challenges of caring for someone with advanced dementia. We frequently heard complaints about her behaviors instead of seeing compassionate, individualized care. She was prescribed multiple medications in an apparent effort to manage those behaviors, and after she was sent to the hospital for treatment of a UTI, we were informed that the facility would not accept her back. At the same time, we were asked to continue paying to hold her bed, despite being told she could not return. Beyond our concerns about her care, we found many staff members to be unfriendly and lacking compassion during an incredibly emotional time for our family. The facility itself often had a strong odor of urine, and the overall environment did not feel clean, welcoming, or dignified for its residents. No nursing home is perfect, and we understand that caring for individuals with dementia is challenging. However, families deserve honesty about a facility’s ability to meet their loved one’s needs before being asked to make life-changing decisions. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this facility and would encourage others to carefully consider all of their options before placing a loved one here.
