A family member of mine who is still temporarily residing there isn’t being treated well from this team of people. She has laid in bed for hours without movement and check ups; she has MS. My mom called in to speak on this only to hear the excuse that they forgot because of second shift rounds coming in. So second shift starts off with not checking patients for 4 hours? Gotcha. A team member told her they would readjust her position after leaving momentarily, and never came back. She couldn’t breathe. She has been given medicine that she needs only in the morning; but the team there has decided without love and compassion that giving it to her in the evening is better idea although she now has to lay in her own pee. A team member said it would be okay, because she can clean it. This team member doesn’t understand that my aunt still has to go through this and it makes her feel less human. The team member also said on the phone to my mom when she had enough of my aunts cries and called in, “Yeah, she’s not very happy with me right now!” Daft. To the lady who said that, no she was not happy. She’s at the lowest point in her life and this is the experience you are giving to somebody you don’t know. You can do better than that. You guys need to take a step back and analyze what you are doing to another persons soul. To leave somebody behind when they cannot move, breathe, eat, and pee on their own and it’s just another “round” for you; this is someone’s family. Seek out ways to find compassion within yourself and think about how you guys have upset a disabled person that’s not at their real home. If taking care of people is this difficult, the solution is to not keep bad employment around. No excuses. People matter so much more than that. Take accountability and learn.

The staff was good but sometimes over welmed. The lockup my mom was in was packed, so many alzheimers Patience's there was little room to move around in the dining and TV room. The doctors didn't listen. My mom had in her records she was allergic to morphine. She was sick to her stomach, complained of her head hurting and was so tired she's couldn't visit!!! I moved her to Oskaloosa care center, they listened then used a fentanynol patch, and then I had my mom back. I do not recommend this place! Edit, I forgot to say. My mom was a very slow eater. I couldn't believe they would take her plate away literally while she was scooping up food! Oskaloosa care center left the food until she finished.

So grateful for the wonderful, caring staff at Good Samaritan! They have taken excellent care both physically and emotionally, of my mom throughout the pandemic. As difficult as it has been for her to be isolated , she always mentions the staff who keep her busy with little projects and treat her just like family. Thank you all so much!

Good Sam Ottumwa is the total package of care. Senior living, assisted, long term, rehab & memory care with hospice services, we really offer it all, as well as very caring awesome staff!! 5 stars!! 👏
